I settled down today, put my feet up and with some snacks at the ready, and some soft drinks by my side, I ventured into Arena Wars. From Director Brandon Slagle (Frost, Breakout, The Flood) and writers Sonny Mahal (Bermuda Island, Attack Of The Unknown) and Michael Mahal ( Bermuda Island, Attack of The Unknown) comes an action packed sci-fi flick starring Michael Madsen (Reservoir Dogs) Eric Roberts (Best Of The Best), Robert LaSardo (The Mule), Kevin Hager (Death Count),BJ Mezek (Night Of The Tommyknockers), Mercedes Peterson (Bloodthirst) and John Wells (Bermuda Island) and it certainly is an action packed ride with a fun cast! What a fun end to my day today and I needed it.
Arena Wars takes us to the year 2045 where convicted death row criminals are given the chance to battle for their lives on the world’s number 1 televised sporting event. Yep you guess it ‘Arena Wars’. Hosted by Moses (played by Robert Donavan) and Samson (played by Michael Madsen) the ‘sporting’ event sees the unarmed convicts trying to survive seven rooms and go up against seven of the most vicious armed killers in the country and if they win (and odds are its a very big IF) they win their freedom. Yep its a very simple plot on paper and it doesn’t need to be any deeper than the simple premise and the film does indeed deliver with its entertainment. Slickly directed by Brandon Slagle and with Director of Photography by Michael Su, Arena Wars is visually very cool indeed and with a great mix of characters in the movie, Arena Wars was a blast! If you are a fan of the ‘human safari’ films such as Hard Target,Surviving The Game, The Running Man and to a certain extent the Burt Reynolds classic The Longest Yard, then you’ll have a blast with Arena Wars. It doesn’t mess around, it does what it says in the title and gets straight to the punches and there are more punches in this film than I can possibly count without hitting the pause button every 10 seconds or so. Ultra violent, and ultra fun! Take a break from the serious side of things in life and check out Arena Wars.
p.s Im hoping…..in the near future….for Arena Wars 2
