Scott Adkins returns as NAVY Seal Jake Harris & this time, the stakes are even higher. In ‘One More Shot’ from Director James Nunn. Now Airing on Sky Cinema .

Mid 2022, I watched the James Nunn directed film ‘One Shot’ starring Scott Adkins (Avengement, The Debt Collector) and telling the story of a squad of Navy SEAL’s, who during a prisoner transport find themselves pinned down in a CIA black ops site by insurgents. Its a film I really enjoyed and you can read my thoughts about it here. Now its 2024 and Scott Adkins and James Nunn team up again for ‘One More Shot’ based on a story by James Nunn and a film that is a sequel to ‘One Shot’ but also works perfectly as a standalone film.  Scott Adkins is back as NAVY Seal Jake Harris who finds himself in a far deadlier situation, caught up in the middle of a plot involving a dirty bomb on its way to Washington, another prisoner transport gone wrong and a squad of gun toting, knife wielding mercenaries led by Robert Jackson (played by Michael Jai White),  who really want to get their hands on the prisoner Amin Mansur (played by Waleed Elgad) and who will stop at nothing to make sure that this happens.  All this action packed into a 100 minute film and it works perfectly.

Whilst the story is set in Washington DC, the film itself was shot entirely on location in London’s Stansted Airport and the team behind the film make fantastic use of the locations. To have built all this as sets would have been an insane task and to be able to film the movie in an actual working airport is genius and helps the realism of the film stand out that much more. I remember when I saw One Shot a couple of years ago I mentioned that it had a great Call of Duty feel to it and whilst that great feel still exists in One More Shot, this film is definitely darker in tone and the stakes feel higher for many of the characters. Yes we are watching an action film but at many times in the film there’s dialogue that makes you think ‘oh crikey- they aren’t going to go this dark are they- that’s brutal’ (I wont tell you if they do go that dark- you’ll have to find out for yourself)

The action feel to the film is like that of ’24’ or if we flip the video game comparison I mentioned when I compared One Shot to Call of Duty, think of One More Shot as a Metal Gear Solid type feel and you are pretty close. The shooting style (and I mean the camera style) is very claustrophobic and fast paced and it works brilliantly with the locations, and the story that we are keeping up with in One More Shot, there’s no need for slow panning shots here, The camera puts us right in the middle of the action and we feel the chaos and intensity of the action and the situation the characters are in.  Scott Adkins is once again on top form and its exhausting watching him do hit this on screen. Hes only 5 years younger than I am but the things he does on screen, I’d not even be able to do 0.1% of that.  Top marks Scott!. Its also great to see this film being another team up for Scott Adkins and Michael Jai White in this, I think their fourth film together. On opposites of the conflict in One More Shot, fans of both actors will be treated to some great action between these two talents. No spoilers here though- watch the film.

Yet again James Nunn showcases his great directing skills and its been great over the past decade to see James get better and better with each film he does. It was 2012 when I first saw him co directing Tower Block (which if you haven’t seen that- I highly recommend it) and over the years each time I see a film that James Nunn takes on- I’ve never been disappointed.  His hit rate is perfect! I cant help think though- We have had One Shot, now One More Shot, will get get One Final Shot or One Last Shot. I have gotten to really like Scott Adkins playing Jake Harris and miss the guy!  I hope he comes back and James Nunn is with him.

One More Shot is on Sky Cinema from 12th January
