Today I spent a few minutes at the ‘Bus Stop’ a short film written, directed and starring Vanessa Bailey ( @VanessaBails )

I had a few minutes to spare this morning between a few tasks, and wanted to watch something. So I ventured into some bookmarks that I have saved on my web browser and clicked on https://www.vanessabaileydirector.com/

On Vanessa’s site there’s a ‘work’ tab at the top and you’ll find some of filmmaker Vanessa Bailey’s films. I opted to click on Bus Stop, not for any particular reason, I liked the title and the poster art and wanted to know more.

Bus Stop, a 9 minute short film written & directed by Vanessa Bailey stars Matthew Jure (who I’d seen a short film called Mute a while back) , Vanessa Bailey (The Lockdown Hauntings) & Daniel Annoh 9TV’s The Recruit) and tells the brief (of course it has to be brief as it has 9 minutes to tell its story) of Liam (played by Matthew Jure) and Rachel (played by Vanessa Bailey) who find themselves sitting at the same bus stop in the dark of night, waiting for a bus that may or may not arrive.  The story that we see in Bus Stop is just that. its two people who don’t know each other at the start but find a ‘connection’., its a simplistic storyline but it works and that is of course down to the writing but also the performances by Vanessa and Matthew in the lead roles.

What does make Bus Stop even more enjoyable though is the films ‘look’ From experience I know that its not the easiest thing to film in low light. Of course it can be done, but its not the easiest thing to do but here in Bus Stop, they’ve chosen to shoot in the night hours and it adds such a wonderful atmosphere and extra dimension to the film, it looks glorious.  We’ve all sat at a bus stop when its dark, and someone sits near us, and the film (and the actors of course) remind me of that initial uncomfortable feeling when being near a stranger. Im not going to go into any other story details, as I don’t want to ruin the film but if you have a few minutes to spare and watch to watch a really well made short film, then do check out Bus Stop.
