As part of my birthday, I decided that I would catch up on the small pile of films that I havent seen before. Also with the fact my main focus is on the UK grown films, today I have decided to watch films from 12 noon til midnight.
The second film that I have seen today was a film that came out last year and I do recall tweeting the hell out of the links that the people connected with the film put out there.
That film is The Knot and I purchased the DVD of it many weeks ago but only today have I found the time to watch it.
The cover describes the film as ‘British Bridesmaids meets The Hangover’ and whilst I can see where that tagline is coming from. I must disagree with it.
To me, The Knot is far funnier than Bridesmaids. I also prefer The Knot to The Hangover. But taglines sometimes persuade people to purchase films,so I forgive Company Magazine for the quote and wont take issue with Universal for using the tagline on the film.
To sum up the film. Its about a wedding day. The chaos that ensues as a couple approach the hour of their vows.
The casting is brilliant with the highlights being Noel Clarke (Storage 24, Star Trek:Into Darkness, Fast Girls) in the role of “Peter”, the best man, and Jason Maza (Victim, Shifty) as Ralphus. Whilst I am on the subject of Jason Maza. I have seen Jason in so many drama roles over the past twelve months but he has such a comedy flare. I look forward to seeing him in the up and coming film The Hooligan Factory.
Of course, no matter how good the casting is in a film (and the casting was brilliant in this one), it all comes down to how good the script is.
Geoff Carino ,Noel Clarke (who both co wrote Storage 24 together), and Davie Fairbanks have knocked out a wonderful script. at some points pure emotional, and at other points eye wateringly funny. Within the first twenty minutes of The Knot, Annette & I were laughing out loud more times than we have for any comedy that we have seen this year. I wont go into ‘this was funny, that was funny’ because half the amusement is the surprise.
So its a huge thank you to all the cast and crew of The Knot. Dont take anything into the fact that It has taken me weeks to watch the film. Thats just about scheduling.
Two things I would like to say. Not that I presume this article will be read by them but Im going to say it anyways.
Jason Maza. Keep doing what you do because its wonderful. You are also brilliant at comedy. So remember that. thank you for all the work you do. It keeps film fans like me in the film fan world. It keeps us happy.
Noel Clarke. You are wonderful. To go from some of the tough drama films that you do,to comedy roles, to science fiction roles. You sir have a wonderful list of work behind you and a brilliant career on going and in front of you. Thank you.
Here is the trailer for the funniest film I have seen this year.
The Knot.
