It certainly doesn’t sound like a popcorn film that’s for sure. Trapped has been described as ‘Powerful, complex, and emotionally gripping’ and tells the story of Raye (played by Gina Jones) —a woman trapped in an abusive relationship—charting her fight to survive, her journey to escape, and the devastating impact of violence on all who come into contact with it. On the surface this film could be similar to the film Tyrannosaur from director Paddy Considine which came out a few years ago and which handles its subject matter both realistically and carefully. Trapped is also said to be a homage to Nil By Mouth and with that in mind Trapped does seem to be doing a similar thing with its subject matter and not treating it as exploitive and treating is as a serious issue (which it very much is). I know director Roland Manookian from his acting roles over the years and he is always great to see on screen. Roland then branched into Directing a couple of years ago with the short film Castle In The Sky, but is now headed into feature directing debut with Trapped. Whilst Im sure the film will be hard to ‘enjoy’ I do think that with the cast list involved its going to be a film that will be with me long after the end credits have ended. I will try to catch the film on release and review it in the near future.
