30 Years! Crikey, time flies. I remember watching Boston Kickout when I worked in my local video store. Back in those days I would watch everything that dropped onto the shelves, a time before streaming, a time before I had access to millions (okay perhaps thousands) of films and so when a new film arrived in the video store, I would watch it and I do remember watching Boston Kickout. This was a time before I knew who John Simm and Andrew Lincoln were, they of course would go onto starring in massive TV shows (Simm starring in Life on Mars, and Lincoln appearing in The Walking Dead) I don’t recall too much about the plot of Boston Kickout as it has been just under 30 years since I saw it last but I remember enjoying in the film and its going to be fun to revisit.
Boston Kickout from renowned director Paul Hills – features a young cast of great British talent including John Simm (Human Traffic) , Marc Warren(Wanted) , Andrew Lincoln (Love Actually) and Emer McCourt (Sunset Heights), who have all gone on to stellar careers as internationally acclaimed stars, and if that’s not enough to pique your interest, there’s an awe-inspiring ‘90s soundtrack featuring some of the biggest and best bands around: The Stones Roses, Primal Scream and Oasis.
Making its World Premiere in October 1995, the film went on to receive worldwide acclaim on its general release across the globe, garnering awards galore and was a success on VHS in the rental stores, at least it certainly was in mine. It was films like this, and JK Amalou’s Hard Men that paved the way for films like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch.
Now, 30 years on, Boston Kickout will receive a Special one night only screening and Q & A at London’s Picturehouse Central on 20 October 2025. Ticket info can be found here: http://bit.ly/3VcmTCo
