The Sweeney is the Gift That Keeps on Giving. Season Three skids into our homes this December.

I may be still working my way through Season 2 of The Sweeney but that doesnt mean I cant get super excited about the news that Season 3 of the 4 Season show will be arriving this December. There is always a concern with television series on physical media that we may not get all the seasons released. That was a worry (or rather concern) when Season 1 was announced. Would the full series be released? Well the answer looks to be a yes as Season 3 of the hit show (and its such a good show) will be released this December from Old Gold Media.

I

m so happy that The Sweeney are back for an unstoppable third series as Detective Inspector Jack Regan (John Thaw) and Detective Sergeant George Carter (Dennis Waterman) take down the hardest hoodlums on London’s mean streets! Bent coppers or bank robbers, The Sweeney take it all in their stride and take no prisoners! Whether they’re looking to take down a thug who shot a cop in a raid or dealing with an escaped convict with a grudge – the Flying Squad are going to do it by throwing out all the rules of TV police procedurals that came before them, and change the landscape of hard-hitting action dramas forever.

A rogues gallery of famous faces appear in the BAFTA-nominated Series Three, including John Hurt (The Elephant Man), George Cole (Minder), Geraldine James (Calender Girls), Kenny Lynch (The Plank), Hywel Bennett (Percy), Ronald Fraser (The Flight of the Phoenix), Maureen Lipman (The Pianist), Nadim Sawalha (The Living Daylights), and I, Claudius star Norman Eshley (in the top-rated episode Taste of Fear, directed by David Wickes); with gritty, quotable scripts by the likes of Troy Kennedy Martin (The Italian Job) and Roger Marshall (The Avengers).

Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of The Sweeney, the brand new Blu-ray restoration has been called a “Revelation” (Desperate Living) and “The Best the Show Has Looked” (On: Magazine). Series Three has also been digitally restored and remastered for the first time in the original TV aspect ratio, with the original 2.0 mono and new 5.1 sound options. The car chases are clearer and the hits land harder – you’ll wince in sympathy as Carter gets duffed up for the umpteenth time!

This definitive collector’s boxset gets you right into the thick of it and with all the special features and bonus materials thrown in, as well as a booklet, you won’t think you’ve been sold a ‘cowboy’ gun. Watch it or you’ll end up helping old ladies across the street!

The Sweeney was a staple of British TV and is definitely worth watching if you miss gritty cop dramas. I saw a few episodes of the show when I was younger and over the years have seen a few more episodes, however it wasnt until the team at Old Gold Media released the first season of the show was I able to watch all the episodes, I then shifted into Season 2 and am very excited that Season 3 is around the corner and hopefully Season 4 will arrive soon after that.

As with Season 1 and 2, Season 3 comes feature loaded with a great list of extras for you to check out once youve watched the episodes of course. Check out the list of features that will come with Season 3.
