Tis time for another Spending Time With…conversation. I do enjoy these. In this Spending Time With, I chat with actress Charlotte Jackson Coleman who’s filmography includes such fun gems as Winnie The Pooh: Bloody and Honey 2, The Bad Nun, Cinderellas Curse, and the upcoming horror film Hook (no, not the Robin Williams starring one) Away from the horror world Charlotte has appeared in TV shows such as Silent Witness and the TV spin off movie Keith Lemon:The Movie. Charlotte’s latest film role is in the thriller Secrets which you can see on Apple+ and Amazon Prime.
Charlotte has taken some time to answer some fun questions and so without anymore writing from me. Lets venture into Spending Time With Charlotte Jackson Coleman.
Without giving anything away, can you briefly tell me a little about ‘Secrets’?
Secrets is a psychological thriller ,about single mum Sammy, who I play, whose mum is murdered at the beginning and so is forced to return to her childhood home and area the place she’s been trying to avoid for the last 20 years. She starts witnessing a chain of events of that linked to her mother’s murder- Which Sammy can’t make sense of and it ends in a very tense final scene. It’s a cautionary tale about moral dilemma and we hope it raises a lot of questions at the end about who you think was good and who you think was bad
What was your experience like on set, how did if feel to be in your first lead feature film role?
I had a very positive experience on set. I really enjoyed it. The whole cast and crew were brilliant. It was one big team. There were no egos on set, and no one was more important than the other. The director Chris Norton was brilliant. He really helped me feel comfortable, gave helpful advice and him and Lizzie really helped create a good vibration with the group- I did obviously feel a bit of pressure especially with the emotional scenes, but the atmosphere allowed us actors to be comfortable to be vulnerable and reached the emotion we needed to get to.
Can you tell me a little about your transition from presenting to acting?
I’d always wanted to act but didn’t really think it was actually something I could pursue. I came from a medical family and went to an academic school. A happy medium was journalism and presenting, eventually when the children were at school I thought I could give it a go. I had already done a few online classes and applying for an acting course from which I graduated in 2021. I’m so glad I did it – otherwise I’d always be thinking I wish I had tried . Quite a few of my friends have changed career in their 40s!
If you had to make a ‘bucket list’ of people you’d love to work with, tell me one name who would be on it?
There are so many actors and directors I would love to work with. It’s so difficult to choose one person, but I would love to work with Philip Barantini and experience the continuous one shot process he often uses. I think it would really keep you in the moment and I love the fact he might have things go not quite as planned but they can often create magical moments.
Have you ever asked for an autograph or a selfie with a another celeb, if so – who and when?
I have never asked for an autograph, but before camera phones, I did get a picture with Messi after presenting him with his first Ballon d’Or. When I was working at Setanta Richard Kiel came into the studio, he sadly isn’t with us any more- I interviewed him during The Open ( golf tournament ) as he had acted in Happy Gilmore- he was such a presence and a lovely guy.
More recently ( when I actually had my phone) I was at a film premiere and the beautiful Salma Hayek was in the bathroom, so I asked her in Spanish for a photo ( I have no idea why, but I felt less embarrassed ask speaking her language
