Check out The Nanny, a fun psychological thriller that takes us back to films like The Hand That Rocks The Cradle & Single White Female. Out Now on Digital from Cockerel Entertainment.

From Cockerel Entertainment ( cockerelentertainment.com ) and writer/director Brian Reynolds comes ‘The Nanny‘, a dark creepy and unsettling tale of a young girl that takes a Nanny role within the weirdest of families. The Nanny is out now on Digital and stars  Georgia Gould as Aino ‘The Nanny’ Phil Abrams (TV’s Parenthood), Hayes Beyersdofer ( Into The Flames), Adam Kitchen ( Hands Of Hell), and Angela Sauer (Jane The Virgin)

Aino, a decent hard working young woman from Finland takes a live in job at a wealthy couple’s isolated summer home to care for their new born infant. Aino very quickly realizes that Brendan (played by Adam Kitchen) & Robin (played by Angela Sauer) in fact hate each other and have zero affection for their young child and all is not well in this household. As the living situation worsens and becomes more dangerous, Aino must navigate rapidly shifting power dynamics as the wife and husband hatch more and more deadly plots against each other.

I really enjoyed The Nanny, what writer/director Brian Reynolds has crafted here is a coin flip on some of the classic thrillers of a few decades ago such as The Hand That Rocks The Cradle or Single White Female, in that we the audience go into the film thinking that it will be the title character that is the unhinged one but in fact its the family the title character has entered that are the dangerous ones. The Nanny doesnt hide any of this though as straight from the start Aino is left in the middle of nowhere, then eventually picked up and dropped off at the deserted house- so we know already that this family is a bit odd and perhaps the best thing Aino can do is run for the hills and find another job. But if she did that, we wouldn’t have a story or a movie- and that would be a shame because The Nanny is such a fun crazy ride.  Its well shot, really well acted and would also I think make a great stage play as the majority of the film is pretty much a three hander.

So if you miss the 90s style psychological thrillers then do check out The Nanny. It reminded me so much of films I would pick up in the video store, settle down with snacks and drinks and spend a couple of hours with a set of original characters in crazy situations.
