Ive always had a fondness for haunted house movies ever since I first saw 1980’s The Changeling, from Director Peter Medak and starring George C Scott. In that film George C Scott plays John Russell who rents a huge mansion and soon finds weird things going on within the house itself. That film chilled my bones when I first saw it and it still does that to this day! Over the years I have seen dozens (and probably more dozens) of films featuring a family or individual that moves into a house, experiences terrifying things and yet they don’t leave the house (if they did- I guess we would have no movie- so I get why they stay) One of the most recent haunted house movies I watched was Not Alone, a film made in 2021 but has now jus been released on Digital through Amazon, by Cockerel Entertainment.
Not Alone takes us into the lives of the Lawson family who get themselves a financial bargain when they secure the purchase of a really big and cool looking house. Of course with every bargain there comes a downside (usually) and in Not Alone that downside is that the house contains really nasty spirits that are set to torment the family. I really enjoyed Not Alone, yes it has a ton of the typical things we see in these type of movies but that’s part of the reason I enjoyed the film. Its a comfort thing. It doesn’t need to test my brain it just needs to entertain and Not Alone certainly did that. Its well directed ( by Lydelle Jackson & Cezil Reed), has a creepy music score and it well acted by all involved. The effects really work and overall I had a blast with the film.
Whilst I do always try and catch up with the latest films in a franchise or all the latest Hollywood blockbusters. I always go looking for indie gems and I think I have found with with Not Alone. The film is now out on Digital to rent or buy from Amazon (the link is at the bottom of this article)
