When Peg (Stephanie Beacham), is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, it’s not just her world that comes crashing down, it has a huge impact on her whole family. This powerful and important film puts this devastating illness that affects so many lives, firmly in the spotlight.

Peg’s daughter (Elizabeth Berrington) thinks it’s best for her to move in with them, but she’s busy with work, so it falls on recently unemployed, teenage granddaughter Chloe (Eloise Smyth) to become a stay-at-home carer.

Newcomer Eloise Smythgives a gritty and authentic performance as the young woman who must tackle the challenges of caring for someone you love, while navigating a whole new world.

Chloe is forced to attend an Alzheimer’s support group by her Mum, initially railing against it… but she soon meets Sam who instantly takes a shine to this bolshy person with no filter, however, Chloe’s not convinced.

As she warms to Sam and the group, Chloe soon faces the reality that things are about to change for her Nan, and how precious the time is that she has left with her. So, she confronts Peg with a big question, what are the things she really wants to experience before it’s too late?

Together they come up with a bucket list and Chloe endeavours to do everything she can to make her Nan’s Summer a truly unforgettable one.

Never shying away from the stark reality of the effects of this illness, Grey Matter is a beautifully made film about the power of family and the challenges of caring for our loved ones when they need us most, however difficult that might be.
