CHRISTMAS HAS come early for fans of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon as the acclaimed spin-off from one of the biggest TV franchises of all time returns for a bold second outing, following the huge success of the first series, which was the most-viewed premiere and season of all time on AMC+ and Sky Max’s most watched show. This time, the titular Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus – The Bikeriders) is reunited with his dearest friend and franchise favourite – the kick-ass survivor Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride – The Mist, Dawson’s Creek).
Following its transmission on Sky Max, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book Of Carol and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 1 & 2 Box set is now on Blu-ray and DVD courtesy of Acorn Media International.
I will start by admitting that im little bit behind on the spin off’s for The Walking Dead. I am fully up to date on the ‘original’ run and have completed The Walking Dead :World Beyond, The Walking Dead: Dead City but have fallen behind with Feat The Walking Dead, and am a season behind with The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, and also have yet to see The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. Im in that ‘catch up’ phase of my view so its great that The Walking Dead:Daryl Dixon is now on bluray where I can watch it at my leisure (and also catch up on the special features)
A few weeks ago I finished Season 1 of Daryl Dixon and have to say. I really liked it. Daryl has for a lot of people (including me) been one of the best characters in The Walking Dead universe and when the stories of the Daryl and Carol spin off started appearing- I was super excited, as Carol is also one of the best and most interesting characters in the apocalyptic series, and the friendship between Carol and Daryl was always one of the one of the most watchable things about the show. Sadly the Daryl and Carol spin off didn’t happen and instead we got a Daryl spin off but hey! still a great show and I watched the full series one over 3 or 4 days. I will admit that when I heard Season 1 was set on Paris, France and featured Daryl- I was a little puzzled as to how Daryl ended up in France
But don’t worry- that is all explained in some neat flash back scenes in Season 1.
Season 1 fits wonderfully into The Walking Dead franchise as does Season 2. ( I wont be going into too many spoilers for Season 2- so don’t worry if you haven’t yet caught up)
Season 2 picks up right where Season 1 left off and works really well as double bill of Season 1 and 2 if you want to catch up really fast.
Theres even a Season 1 and 2 bluray pack if you don’t already own Season 1.
For me The Walking Dead always works better as a binge watch. That’s how I watched The Walking Dead from around Season 4 onwards. Rather than waiting a week for a new episode, I could hit play and head right into the continuing story of survival. I always feel (for me anyways) that the show works better for me that way.
So what do you need to know about The Walking Dead:Daryl Dixon before going in? Well don’t worry too much if you haven’t seen all the other shows. Whilst The Walking Dead:Daryl Dixon is set after The Walking Dead (original series) finished- You actually don’t need to have seen all of that 9or even any of it), or even have it all fresh in your mind. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon whilst a spin off, would actally work and does actually work as a standalone show if you wanted to leap straight in. The basic premise of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is that our hero Daryl ends up in France, and wants to find his way back to the US to meet up with his friends. In France he encounters a new set of characters who quickly become part of his world. Season 1 ends up on ‘oh wow, I want Season 3 NOW’ scene and thankfully we can indeed go straight into Season 2. Entitled The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon The Book of Carol so its not surprise to know that Carol is a big part of this season.
The Walking Dead:Daryl Dixon has resparked my love for The Walking Dead and I know that in the coming weeks, I will catch up on the remaining spin offs and wait eagerly for more tales to come from the world of The Walking Dead.
So treat yourself, to The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (Season 1 and 2) if you fancy some great storytelling in an apolcalyptic world! Bring on Season 3 (I hope there will be one)
