‘You’re Next’ Adam Wingard’s ‘gloriously gory & highly entertaining’ horror gets Limited Edition 4K UHD/Blu-ray release. Out Now from Second Sight Films

Time flies as a film fan, I’m stunned when I think that its been 13 years since Adam Wingard released ‘You’re Next’. If someone asked me what year the film came out, Id probably guess around 2016ish. But a lot has happened in the film and timescales are fuzzy. Its also been 13 years since I first saw the film and I was very excited to visit the film this month as its been so long since my last viewing of this top notch thriller.

Today (19th August 2024) sees the release of the Second Sight edition of You’re Next and its a glorious release for many reasons.  Not only has the film been treated to a great restoration (picture and sound) but its also loaded with special features which are a treat to those who want to delve into the film even more. Second Sight Films rank at the top of my favourite companies releasing genre films. Not only can you see the care and attention that goes into the film when you pop the disc in the player, but reading through the special features that accompany a Second Sight Films release, you can see that the team love movies, and love movie fans! Whether its commentary tracks ( You’re Next has 2), featurettes, interviews and much more will make a purchase of a Second Sight Films release even more of a ‘must have & must do’ But lets focus on You’re Next.

Released on 2011, You’re Next is a wonderful insanity packed home invasion thriller from director Adam Wingard (V/H/S, The Guest, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire) and writer Simon Barrett (V/H/S, The Guest, Blair Witch), who joined forces to create this critically acclaimed splatter-fest.

In ‘You’re Next’ we meet the Davison family all gather to celebrating their parents wedding anniversary and during a family dinner party, chaos begins when a crossbow bolt flies through the window. The evening goes from a wedding anniversary celebration to a full on home invasion in moments as the gang of intruders invade the house. What seems like an ‘easy invasion’ for the house invading crazies, doesn’t turn out that way when they learn that one of the targets perhaps has a secret talent for fighting back.

For genre fans, the cast of You’re Next is a treat. Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator, Creepshow), Sharni Vinson (House on Willow Street) AJ Bowen (The Sacrament) Joe Swanberg ( V/H/S) and Ti West – Pearl, X) to name a few. Its a who’s who of talent and they all help make You’re Next a great evenings entertainment. I’m often a fan of lists, whether its a Top 5 of this, or a Top 10 of that, I do like to cover topics on my podcast from time to time and home invasion thrillers are something that come up quite often when I talk about my favourite sub genre of films. I don’t know why I love them but I do, even though they get my nerves all fired up and my heart pounding. For a list of ‘best home invasion movies’ You’re Next is always on that list and having rewatched the film in the past day or two. ‘You’re Next’ still remains on that list of my favourite home invasion movies.  If you haven’t seen it, treat yourself. But make sure your doors are locked (and your curtains are closed- beware crossbow bolts)

The must-own set (to be honest though, all Second Sight Film releases are must own- the work they put into a release is wonderful and detailed too) promises a bucket load of special features, including a new commentary with the director and writer, cast and crew interviews, essays and much more.

Check out This Special Feature List and also the run time of them- Itll fill your day!
