With such a simplistic plot (crazed man kills anyone that he wants) You Can’t Run Forever could have been such a simplistic film. However put JK Simmons in the lead role as the crazed man and let him loose and what you get it a cracking thriller that is both edgy as hell to watch and also a great evenings entertainment. When Eddie (played by Allen Leech) and Miranda (played by Isabelle Anaya) cross paths with Wade (played by JK Simmons) things are never the same again as a hunt to the death begins. JK is on top form as the calculated yet spur of the moment killer Wade who makes decisions in the blink of an eye and channels pure insanity in a way I haven’t seen him play since he took on the role of Vern Schillinger in HBO’s Oz, many years ago. Scary as hell but 100% watchable. Ive been a fan of JK’s since seeing him in the prison drama and this is as close to that character as ive seen him in since those HBO days. Great work JK!
As id mentioned, the plot is very straight forward and that’s not a bad thing. The story isn’t bogged down by a plot any more complicated than it needs to be and it means the film we are watching gets straight to the point and its so much better for it. Wonderfully directed by Michelle Schumacher (who also appeared in HBO’s OZ) You Cant Run Forever is definitely a thriller I would recommend if you want to put your feet up and feel the same way you did when you watched Rutger Hauer stalking C Thomas Howell in the classic film The Hitcher. Well written, well directed, and a cast that looked like they were having a blast!
