Award-winning filmmaker Blake Ridder, who made 52 films in three years, shares his journey in his new book ‘How I Made 52 Films in 3 Years ‘ (you can read more about that book HERE) and says, ‘Budding filmmakers shouldn’t pursue perfection; it’s more important to get stuck in.’
I sent some preprepared questions over to Blake and here you can read his responses. Thank you Blake.
What is one of your most favourite locations you have filmed in?
An abandoned old mansion in Surrey
Do you have any ‘props or keepsakes from any of your own films ?
Yes, I kept a vintage pocket watch from my feature film as a memento.
You have made an incredible amount of films in a relatively short time, being so
prolific, do you have an ‘off switch’ when not working, and how does it work?
I am addicted to making films! I was making a film a month and at one point, two films a month and I have written a book about it – How I Made 52 Films in 3 Years But my ‘off switch’ is getting lost in nature hikes, where I can recharge and find inspiration.
Which of your projects are you most proud of and why?
I’m most proud of my next feature film for pushing my creative limits into the horror genre –
it’s in post-production at the moment and it’s my 72nd film, it’s called Manor of Darkness. It’s a horror film with a time loop theme, due for release in Autumn.
What’s the most difficult thing about your creative journey, and the most rewarding?
The most difficult part is balancing creativity with practicality, but seeing my vision come to life is the ultimate reward.
What is the one thing you would like budding filmmakers to take away from reading your story?
I’d like them to embrace persistence and resilience, knowing that every setback is a step
towards success. Filmmaking is a craft; it takes time and practice to develop your skills. I want to encourage people to follow their passion and get stuck in!
Can you tell us a bit about your upcoming film, Manor of Darkness?
Manor of Darkness delves into psychological horror, exploring the eerie secrets of an abandoned mansion.
