Looks like we are set to return to Middle Earth on the big screen in 2026 with the announcement that director Andy Serkis will be helming The Hunt For Gollum. Andy is also set to return as the title character (which would have been so strange if it was someone else) and Peter Jackson is stepping into the role of Producer. The Hunt For Gollum is still in the early stage of The project is currently in the early stages of writing and so whether the film does surface in 2026 is anyone’s guess. But for Middle Earth fans out there, I will keep my fingers crossed.
In a Variety article which you can read HERE Studio execs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy said “For over two-decades, moviegoers have embraced the ‘Lord of the Rings’ film trilogy because of the undeniable devotion Peter, Fran and Philippa have shown towards protecting the legacy of Tolkien’s works, and to ensure audiences could experience the incredible world he created in a way that honors his literary vision,” They went on to add “We are honored they have agreed be our partners on these two new films. With Andy coming aboard to direct ‘Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum,’ we continue an important commitment to excellence that is a true hallmark of how we all want to venture ahead and further contribute to the ‘Lord of the Rings’ cinematic history.”
I’m a big fan of the Peter Jackson Lord of The Rings Films (Fellowship, Two Towers and Return of the King), im not so much a big fan of The Hobbit films and haven’t yet watched the TV series ‘Rings of Power’ but will catch up with it before the big screen films arrive. Its great news that Andy Serkis will not only be back as Gollum but also that he will be directing the movie too. I’m really hoping that we get a more practical look to the film, just like The Lord Of The Rings films rather than the more CG look to the films of The Hobbit, but I wont know that until the trailer debuts in the future.
