I perhaps made a teeny tiny mistake when watching Slasher House (3) rebooted. I hadn’t seen Slasher House or Slasher House 2 beforehand. Released in 2012, the first Slasher House (written and directed by MJ Dixon) tells the story of Red (played by Eleanor James) who wakes up to find herself in a cell within an asylum that she soon finds is filled with some of the worlds most nasty serial killers. Red is now caught in a game of survival as the killers hunt her down. 2016 saw the release of Slasher House 2, where Red (this time played by Francesca Louise White ) battles killers once again and also tries to solve the mystery of who is in fact behind this madness of the Slasher House project. Fast forward to me, sitting down to watch Slasher House 3 rebooted and of course I wasn’t sure what to expect but I don’t mind that sometimes with films, going in cold without any pre information about the film, and all was fine. After a few moments of confusion by me (but that’s my fault not having seen the previous films) I settled into the latest film by MJ Dixon.
After a bonkers ‘fake’ trailer for a film called Slaypril Fools 88 (which i would like to see actually become a film) the main feature begins. Red (played by Redd Nicholson ) wakes up in a white room, naked, and confused as to (a) why shes there, and (b) why shes naked. I was wondering if Slasher House 3 would be like Cube (great film if you haven’t seen it) or perhaps like Resident Evil? What is going on here? who is Red? and why is she in that room and why is she naked? Those questions were in my mind too as well as Red’s
All would soon be answered as I learned that Red was trapped within Project Slasher house which seems to be run by the nasty looking H.E.X.A.G.O.N and before long I (the viewer) was introduced by a series of different slasher houses filled with crazy looking weirdo serial killers. I had so much fun with Slasher House 3, I’m not sure what the budget was (and i don’t really need to know) but for whatever it cost, the set design, costume design and prop design were wonderful. A lot of thought and work has gone into the look of the film and this certainly makes the film more fun for the viewer.
The plot itself was fun too and whilst I don’t know it for sure, I do think that the films writer and director MJ Dixon did in fact want to include nods to the aforementioned films Cube and Resident Evil within this world, and I like that choice!. Slasher House 3 is for me a love letter back to not only the sci fi films of decades gone by, but the feel of the film also gave me the nostalgic feels for some of the early 80s and 90s scifi horror films. Thanks MJ! The cast (and there are so many names in this this film that if i listed them, well it would be a long list) look like they were having a blast too and hopefully there are some behind the scenes material that will make it out into the world, perhaps on a bluray or DVD. Just a thought! as id love to see more of the cast and crew who helped craft this fun movie. So if you do fancy a fun couple of hours or horror scifi and fun entertainment , actually more than a couple of hours- Seek out Slasher House, Slasher House 2, and Slasher House 3. But if you cant track down the first 2 films- that’s okay- after a few minutes in the world of the third film. You’ll be fine. You’ll settle into this bonkers fun film by MJ Dixon.
