In these days of gaming when the words ‘next gen’, ‘terraflops’, ‘frame rates’ and such like are never far from the conversation, It was a breath of fresh pixel to have played Geometry Survivor, the latest title from Brain Seal Entertainment which is now available on consoles & PC. Geometry Survivor isnt about the stunning graphics, or using a consoles full system capacity to make the game as visually stunning as it can be. No, Geometry Survivor is about having a fun time playing a game, and i loved it. To me it felt like a walk down video game memory lane to games like Asteroids, Defender, or even Pac-Man. A graphically simplistic game that is about the gameplay and not the visuals.
Straight into the game we find ourselves controlling a space craft which is about to be surrounded by a zillion more spaces ships all intent on blowing us to bits. Keep on the move and the automatic guns will take out any ship that’s in your firing range (hopefully) The longer you stay alive, the more upgrades will come your way and the busier things get. Yes its that simple and I had a blast (pun intended) playing it. The aim (pun once again intended) of the game is to survive as long as you can, I think the longest I lasted was three or four minutes but I had so much fun lasting that long. The controls are super easy, its a one handed control and the guns fire automatically so there’s no need for any trigger action.
For those used to ‘modern games’ then perhaps this might look a little basic, but for those who grew up on video games from the very start, its such fun and a lovely trip back to how video games used to be (and that’s not saying modern games aren’t good- just that the classic games were so addictive and fun to play)
Geometry Survivor is on Steam & Nintendo Switch for $4.99 USD as well as on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, & Xbox Series X/S for $7.99 USD and yes also on PlayStation 5 at the same price.
