Treasured Films packed release of 1983’s Video Nasty ‘Mausoleum’ on Limited Edition Bluray uncut and feature loaded! ( @TreasFilmsUK )

Once upon a time there was a ‘video nasty’ list where so called powers that be in the UK placed films that would destroy humanity!  Films to horrific that they should never be seen. Ah the good old days of the early 80s.  Well thankfully films aren’t in danger of destroying humanity or the minds of the youth anymore and so over the years we have seen many of the ‘video nasty’ films coming out, uncut, and loaded with special features and its glorious! The wonderful people over at Treasured Films have now released Mausoleum, a film from 1983 which was on the ‘video nasty’ list but now can be bought uncut and special feature loaded! Bless you Treasured Films! In these modern days where we read that some studios are cutting back on releasing titles on physical media, and many films and shows are being removed from streaming platforms, vanishing from our eyes! I praise companies that release titles both new and old onto disc, and treat them with respect, in the way that Treasured Films are doing with titles from decades earlier. Long may that continue!

Mausoleum, directed by Michael Duggan (Raging Hormones, Super Seal) stars Bobbie Bresee (Ghoulies, Surf Nazis Must Die) as Susan who many years earlier had awakened a centuries-old evil: an ancestral demon who possessed her and who now decides the time is right to go on a rampage of gore and death!

Mausoleum is a film I hadn’t seen previously but I am drawn towards releases of older films especially if they come loaded with extra features for me to delve into and Treasured Films do that very well. With Mausoleum the set comes with the following extras: For the Limited Edition you get the following

Rigid slipcase with exclusive artwork by Graham Humphreys

Perfect-bound book with essays by John Martin, Darrell Buxton and Mikel Koven.

6 Collectors’ art cards

Webstore exclusive ‘Bitey Boobs’ Nomed Demon Magnet (first 500 orders only)

Webstore exclusive A3 reversible fold-out poster (first 500 orders only)

4K scan and restoration from the 35mm original camera negative and for a low budget film from 1983 the restoration looks great. Great job!!!

New audio commentary by Kim Newman and Barry Forshaw.  (and if you haven’t heard a Kim Newman commentary you are in for a treat, this guy really knows movies!) and this track does live up to the Kim Newman quality as he and Barry take us on a journey through the films history. Kim’s tracks are worth a purchase alone!

There’s a 2008 audio commentary by Bobbie Bresee and Lee Christian. Bobbie takes us on a trip back through her thoughts on the film and the films production and I love it when a cast member from a film that’s decades old shares their memories of the film. Definitely do check out this commentary!

In this audio interview ‘A Damn Good Reason’ Bobbie Bresee takes about her life and career. To make this feature more visual, this feature is packed full of photos and press clippings from Bobbie’s personal files whilst we listen to Bobbie share her stories.  It runs for 52:58 mins.

When You Comin’ Back, Marjoe?: a new video essay on the life and career of Marjoe Gortner, written and presented by author John Harrison (18:58 mins).

Making Monsters: interview with special effects makeup artist John Carl Buechler (8:39 mins).

Babysitting Monsters: a new interview with special effects artist Christopher Biggs (22:43 mins).

Cursed Auras: Stephen Thrower on Mausoleum (29:43 mins).

Trailers

TV Spots

Image Gallery Slideshow: promotional stills, advertisements, press cuttings, lobby cards and video covers (7:22 mins).

Reversible sleeve featuring two artwork choices.

Pretty impressive list isn’t it. Over 2 hours of docs, plus 2 full commentaries for the near 100 minute film. Now THAT is value for money!  The bluray is also Region Free so if you aren’t in the UK, you’ll be fine to import and watch on whichever player you have! I hadn’t seen Mausoleum until now and wasn’t sure what to expect. What I was rewarded with though was a fantastic restoration of a cult 80s film packed to the gills with enough information in it that I could probably now give a lecture on this video nasty classic! Highly recommended purchase!
