2024 didn’t, but will 2025 see a release for Tom Six’s ‘The Onania Club’. I really hope so! #releasetheonaniaclub ( @tom_six )

Whether you are a fan of 2009’s The Human Centipede (I am!) or not a fan of the film (or its sequels) there is no doubt that the idea of The Human Centipede (First Sequence) is one of the most original ideas to come out of the film world is a whole bunch of years. I’m not saying its the Number One unique idea before you come at me giving suggestions of films that you feel perhaps might be more unique, but I am saying that if there is a list of cinematic unique movies, then The Human Centipede (First Sequence) definitely belongs on that list. Its story about a mad scientist who kidnaps three tourists and reassembles them into a human centipede is wonderfully insane and quickly established writer director Tom Six as a very unique voice in the film world. The horror film world wanted the story to go further and so Tom Six gave them what they wanted in 2011 with The Human Centipede (Full Sequence) and The Human Centipede (Final Sequence) followed in 2015.

Many people (thankfully not all) moan that Hollywood and the film world is all remakes, reboots, sequels, prequels, and franchises. And whilst there are a ton of those around, there are a lot of original films out there, sometimes you just have to seek them out  One film that isn’t out there but 100% should be out there is Tom Six’s The Onania Club, a film that was created, filmed, edited, and finished years ago but hasn’t yet seen the light of day when it comes to being on our screens. Why? Why hasn’t the film been released into the world?

It seems that ‘The Onania Club’ just can’t find a distributor for the film. For some reason distributors don’t seem to keen or aren’t brave enough to tackle a release of The Onania Club, Its bonkers isn’t it. The films done, its ready, but it really needs a distributor with a love of unique films to tackle it and give us film fans what we really want, to be able to see The Onania Club.

The Onania Club tells the story of Hanna (played by Jessica Morris from End Times, Tommyknockers), a married mother of one who learns that she can only get sexually excited when it involves the suffering of others. With that self discovery this then leads her to The Onania Club, a place of pain, torture and death for their sexual pleasure. As you’d expect from Tom Six, this isn’t no Disney style film and perhaps this is why some distributors are taking a pass on the film. But horror has always pushed boundaries and does it brilliantly. With out boundary pushing, we would never have ended up with many of the films we love and adore to this day.

From what I have heard (and I sadly haven’t seen the film) is that The Onania Club is an uncomfortable film to watch, it delivers some bleak material right in our faces and dares us to look away but of course we don’t look away.  In some ways that description is very reminiscent of my feelings for The Human Centipede (First Sequence) It was a film that I was genuinely too nervous to watch that I had to psych myself up to view and once I saw it, I didn’t look away, was shocked, disturbed and yet love the film to this very day and beyond.

The Onania Club cast list also features Darcy DeMoss ( Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives ) , Karen Strassman (TV’s Mayans MC), Deborah Twiss (Kick Ass) , Flo Lawrence (The Lords of Salem), John T. Woods (Crossbreed), and  Steffani Brass (HBO’s Six Feet Under)

I often like to think about what I wish for the new year, and high up on my list was that 2024 finally sees the release of The Onania Club, Whether people like it, or not like it (and that’s a risk with any film) one things for sure, curiosity and a desire to see the Tom Six film is high! I hope we get our wish granted and we get The Onania Club (2025) Sadly we didn’t get the film in 2024, but please please please movie gods! Let this film find a home this year in 2025.
