JFK, 1991’s epic film by Oliver Stone has been a film that I have revisited many times over the years, on its release which I did miss at the cinema, I saw the film on VHS and bought the film on day one of its home release. Then over the years I had the single DVD edition, then a two disc DVD set. I currently have the two DVD set as part of my 10 film Oliver Stone box set which I bought a couple of decades ago (I show that off in this video ) and now I am all ready to upgrade to this newly released stunning release by Shout Factory.
If you haven’t seen JFK, then treat yourself. Its not just one of the best films ever made but its also a film school in itself with its editing, cinematography, music and writing. It features one of the best casts I’ve seen in a film,Kevin Costner (Dances With Wolves), Sissy Spacek (Carrie), Joe Pesci (Goodfellas), Tommy Lee Jones (No Country For Old Men), Kevin Bacon (Mystic River), Laurie Metcalf (Lady Bird), Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight), Jack Lemmon (The Apartment), Donald Sutherland (Invasion Of The Body Snatchers), Walter Matthau (A New Leaf), John Candy (Uncle Buck), Vincent D’Onofrio (Daredevil), Wayne Knight (Jurassic Park), Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead), Frank Whaley (The Doors) to name just a few.
Its not just the film or the fact JFK has now been remastered for this 4K edition that makes this a must have for your collection. This set also features both the theatrical version of the film but also the extended directors cut of the film which adds 17 minutes of extra footage within the film itself, and having seen both versions. My go to version nowadays is usually the directors cut of the film. Also included in the set are a host of featurettes plus a full length commentary by Oliver on the theatrical and also a commentary on the directors cut of the film. I also highly recommend these commentaries (and any commentaries that Oliver Stone does- they are highly entertaining, educational and very engaging) So treat yourself to the best edition of one of the best movies out there.
