From the team behind Hollywood Dreams & Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story, Pennywise: The Story of IT, and You’re So Cool, Brewster: The Story of Fright Night comes Robodoc, a new 4 part series originally aired Screambox in August is now headed to a great looking bluray.
Co-directed by Chris Griffiths and Eastwood Allen and produced by Gary Smart, Robodoc is easily the most indepth exploration into the classic 1987 film featuring exclusive stories from stars Peter Weller (Murphy/Robocop), Nancy Allen (Anne Lewis), Ronny Cox (Dick Jones), Ray Wise (Leon Nash), and Kurtwood Smith ( Clarence Boddicker ), the films director Paul Verhoeven, its writers Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner, special effects legend Phil Tippett, and so many more names involved with the classic movie. Robocop was released in 1987 but stories that you’ll hear within this documentary date back to 1980 and you’ll love them!
I’m not sure if Robodoc was originally designed as a single four hour documentary or always as a four part series, either way works to be honest. I had been lucky enough to be able to see all four episodes and did actually watch them all in a single afternoon. RoboSaturday I called it!
To say this documentary which runs for over four hours (five if you could the extra features that will be on the bluray) is indepth is such an obvious thing to say, but its true. I’ve seen a lot of special features on DVDs and Blurays over the years about Robocop. I’ve listened to several audio commentaries about Robocop and even adding all that content together, doesn’t even come close to the amount of information within Robodoc. This is the ultimate Robocop documentary that you need to check out if you like the 1987 film.
“We’ve crafted something together to incorporate visuals and sound in an effort to immerse viewers into the world of ’80s filmmaking and offer something completely unique to the ‘making of’ format,” explains Eastwood Allen.
“As a fan of RoboCop for the past 30 years, this project has been a labor of love for me, and I can’t wait to share this unique project with the fans, especially those who have stood by us all these years,” adds Chris Griffiths.
So to sit alongside your Robocop bluray (either the Arrow or Criterion edition) then I do highly recommend Robodoc! Also great news is that I hear there will be further documentaries that will go into production that will focus on Robocop 2 and Robocop 3.
