Sarah Giercksky, writer, director, MMA fighter, producer and much more. her latest film Bunny Man Slaughter looks wonderful and insane (but in a good way) and I cant wait to see it when it arrives in 2024. I first saw Sarah in the 2019 short film Create A Killer which I do urge you to check out. Its a great love letter to the horror world. I caught up with Sarah virtually and sent over the pre prepared Spending Time With…questions. So less typing from me, and lets get on with learning more about Sarah Giercksky.
What was the most recent book you read?
I am currently reading Marquis De Sade’s 120 Days of Sodom.
Is there a book that you have re-read more than any other?
Probably Stephen King’s Pet Sematary.
What TV shows are you currently watching?
Goosebumps, Our Flag Means Death Season 2 and Yellowjackets Season 2.
What is one of your favourite television shows of all time?
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Father Ted, but I have a lot of favorite shows like Big Mouth, South Park, Disenchantment, Cup Head and a lot of others.
What is one of your most favourite locations you have filmed or performed in?
The location and woods we filmed Sargad (Wounded) in was quite beautiful and I enjoyed going there. We started filming i in May and ended the shoot in June 2016, so the weather was very nice here in Sweden during that time.
Do you have any ‘props or keepsakes from any of your films or shows?
Yes I do have a few special SFX props from Sargad (Wounded) in a box.
Do you remember who got your first autograph?
I honestly can’t remember, so sorry.
Have you ever gotten someone’s autograph? Which is the most memorable for you?
Yes, I’ve gotten several autographs and two that stand out are Ruggero Deadato and Robert Englund, both of whom I met during the Stockholm Sci-Fi Convention, but at different times. I also remember being dressed as Emily from Corpse Bride while meeting Ruggero and as Sam from Trick ‘r Treat when I met Robert.
What is the ONE single coolest movie geek thing you own?
Probably my life size Baby Yoda Statue.
What is one film that gives you the ‘creeps’? Or scares you
No movie really scares me, but The Poughkeepsie Tapes had a few creepy moments.
Do you have an ‘off switch’ when not working, and how does it work?
I just like to relax and not think about any type of work by watching horror movies, playing video games, hanging out with friends and loved ones, playing Magic The Gathering (O-Kagachi is my favorite commander to play) and spending time with my cat Abby Normal.
What’s the first thing you do when you get on ‘set’
Having a little meeting to make sure everyone feels welcomed and fully informed of what we are going to shoot that day. Then I make sure that the food and drink table is all set up so that everyone has the energy to work.
Do you prefer day shoots or night shoots?
I haven’t done a lot of night shoots, but I have to say I prefer doing day shoots.
If you had to make a ‘bucket list’ of people you’d love to work with, tell me one name who would be on it?
Kaitlin Olson from It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia.
Do you read reviews of shows or films that you are in?
Yes I do.
Let’s shine a light on some of your past work. Which of your projects are you most proud of?
Sargad (Wounded) was my first feature film and it will always have a special place in my heart, but Create Your Killer is definitely the most fun project that I have released so far. I do think that when Bunny Man Slaughter will have it’s release next year, it will probably be my favorite project so far.
Out of all the projects you’ve done, which one do people seem to ask you the most about?
Sargad (Wounded), because of the penis scene.
What’s the most difficult thing about your creative journey?
To get the proper funding for my movies.
And, the flipside. What’s the most enjoyable for you?
When I have just finished my script, realised that the story has come together and that I will be shooting this in a few months. I also do a lot of the SFX work myself and when something works the way I imagined it would is such an amazing feeling, but a lot of the times it doesn’t work the way I had imagined at all and I have to scrap that idea and come up with something else.
I was tweet chatting with Mick Garris (The Stand, Hocus Pocus) and asked him which name spring to mind when he thought ‘Oh MY God i’ve met them’ My reply was George A Romero (Night Of The Living Dead), Mick’s was Steven Speilberg. Who would yours be?
Tyler MacIntyre
