Costas Mandylor and Tara Reid star in Director Michael Su’s Vampire Movie ‘Bloodthirst’ ( @TaraReid )

From Director Michael Su (Bridge of The Doomed, Bermuda Island) and Mahal Empire Productions comes Bloodthirst, a post apocalyptic tale of Humans versus Vampires starring Costas Mandylor, Tara Reid and Robert LaSardo. Whilst Bloodthirst is a vampire film, it also has a fun western feel to the film and that does make it a little different from many other vampire films (and of course there are a LOT of other vampire films) So if you think of Bloodthirst as a vampire, action, scifi, horror, western film. Then you are all set for a fun experience.

Bloodthirst has a multi story thing going on, and often in films that doesn’t work, but here it does. It doesn’t feel complicated, and doesn’t feel ‘jumpy’ when we shift from one story to another.

In the film we follow the stories of Vampire Hunter John Shephard (played by Costas Mandylor), The Vampire Queen (played by Tara Reid), The Vampire Master played by (Robert Lasardo), and the Ultimate Vampire Master (played by Wesley Cannon) as they all go about their ‘missions’ in this post apocalyptic world. I wont give a breakdown of what each of those stories are, but they are good. There is actually enough material and potential with each of these characters and stories to have their own movie ( I hope and suspect a sequel might happen at some point)  and yet Bloodthirst doesn’t feel like its cramming too much into one film, its very well balanced and paced and the characters are well crafted that will keep them in your mind long after the 90 minute film has ended.

If there is a confusing part to the film, then that’s actually more to do with the genre of vampire films in general. We the audience have become so used to the ‘rules’ set down in vampire films over the years, such as they cant go out in daylight, if they bite you, you turn into one. they are scared of crucifixes. You know those sort of rules. The rules of a film are of course set out in whatever film we are watching- but for vampire rules, we the audience feel they should be the same right across the board. In Bloodthirst, we see vampires walking in the daylight and there is some mix of whether a crucifix hurts or not. That’s not the fault of the film or this particular story. Its just us the audience have been conditioned to think that all vampire films need to follow the same rules (which they don’t) . So when watching Bloodthirst, don’t let those thoughts about vampire rules deter you from having a fun time watching this human v vampire chaos.

Bloodthirst will be available on Digital and On Demand on October 31.

I really like the films that Mahal Empire Productions release. No they don’t look like $200million dollar budget films, because they aren’t $200million dollar budget films, but what they are, is fun!  Pure popcorn films that run for around the 90 minute mark, give you a fun story, brought to the screen by good directors and filled with a cast of names that you will have seen in other movies but who you enjoy seeing.  For example in Bloodthirst, along with Tara Reid ( Urban Legend, American Pie 2) who I gotta say must have had such a fun time doing this film, her characters awesome! , we have the always wonderful Elissa Dowling (Starry Eyes, Tales of Halloween), and Eileen Dietz (The Exorcist, 2009’s Halloween II). Such a fun cast! With many of the Mahal Empire Productions, they do round up a great cast and I always enjoy seeing what films they have coming around the corner.
