From writer and director Christopher Nolan comes the must-see masterpiece about the man and the moment that changed the world forever (and you can double up with Barbie if you wish) OPPENHEIMER is now available to own on 4K Ultra HD, Blu- ray, DVD & Digital from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.
With an all star cast including Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr, Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, and Oscar winners Casey Affleck , Rami Malek and Kenneth Branagh. Oppenheimer is a fantastic film and currently sits in my Top films of the year. I saw the film on the big screen (I didn’t see it on the BIGGEST though, I opted for a cinema screening not an IMAX cinema screening) and loved the film. it didn’t feel its running time and the soundtrack is one of my favourite scores of the year. Great work by Ludwig Göransson) Its a soundtrack that I have had playing so many times this year.
With the home release you can delve far deeper into the filmmaking behind OPPENHEIMER with some great special features, including “The Story of Our Time: The Making of Oppenheimer.” a 70+ minute piece that showcases exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with Christopher Nolan and ,many of the cast and crew (including Emily Blunt, and of course Cillian Murphy) There’s a great story about Chris calling Cillian up to tell him about the film is wonderful, its told from both sides, Christopher’s and also Cillian’s. Put a smile on my face!
Additional features include the NBC News companion documentary, “To End All War: Oppenheimer and the Atomic Bomb,” as well as a “Trinity Anniversary Panel Discussion” featuring a panel moderated by Emmy -winning journalist Chuck Todd, with Christopher Nolan, Nobel Prize winner Dr. Kip Throne; world-renowned physicist Dr. Carlo Rovelli; Dr. Thom Mason, director of the Los Alamos National Laboratory; and Kai Bird, the Pulitzer Prize-winning co-author of American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer, on which the film is based.
Having seen the film on the big screen I can say this film looks (and sounds) fantastic and was a must have purchase for me. If there is a downside, and there is in my opinion only one (for me) its that once again the picture ratio does that jumpy thing where the IMAX scenes fill your screen but the non IMAX scenes leave you with the black bars. Now I don’t mind black bars, never have. but the jumping from full screen to widescreen is a little distracting and has been a ‘thing’ with many of Christopher Nolan blurays over the years. However if you learn to ignore the format jumps- then its fine. Its still a magnificent presentation of one of the best films of the year.
OVER THREE HOURS OF SPECIAL FEATURES ON 4K ULTRA HD, BLU-RAY AND DVD
The edition I watched was the bluray version which has the film on Disc One which still looks amazing even if it wasn’t the 4k version, and Disc Two contains the special features
