Renny Harlin’s Swashbuckling Pirate Epic “Cutthroat Island” makes its 4K Steelbook, Out Now |

Making its UHD debut, the tons of fun, big-budget pirate adventure CUTTHROAT ISLAND, directed by Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger) and starring Geena Davis (Thelma & Louise, The Long Kiss Goodnight) and Matthew Modine (Pacific Heights). I’ve enjoyed this film every time ive seen it (which is about 4 times I think) and i know its going to look glorious with the new 4K restoration, and also I’m very happy to see that the disc will come packed with special features including a Renny Harlin commentary. The film over the years seems to be the butt of many jokes, and some people do like to bash the film because it didnt light the box office on fire, but not all super fun films make a fortune on their original release, and Cutthroat Island is a fun film and if you havent seen it, I would recommend it. If you have seen it but not for a bunch of years, then perhaps its time to revisit it (I will be)

Famous pirate’s daughter Morgan (played by Geena Davis) is on a quest for riches – she needs to get the remaining two parts of a map from her evil uncles, in order to find her dead father’s hidden treasure. Enlisting the help of a convicted thief (played by Matthew Modine), she straps on her cutlasses and takes to the high seas on a tempestuous journey – but villainous uncle Captain Dawg (played by Frank Langella) is in hot pursuit.

CUTTHROAT ISLAND is wickedly entertaining and funny and has some stunning action set pieces. Coming out just ahead of the popularity of the Pirates of the Caribbean series, this ahead-of-its-time epic is ripe for rediscovery in this sumptuous new restoration, that includes a treasure chest of exciting new extras.
