Whilst generally I do focus on movies and television, I do branch out at times when I see a project that gets my attention. One such project is Lico Jiménez The Ebony Liszt, a documentary film and concert which is currently running a fundraising campaign to film the performance of Estudio Sinfónico, by José Manuel “Lico” Jiménez Berroa, a sixteen minute symphony that will be performed for the first time outside of Cuba.
The Florida Chamber Symphony, an 80 instrument orchestra, is adding this to their repertoire and are premiering it on October 8th, 2023 at the Miami Dade Auditorium. The symphony is being conducted by Marlene Urbay.
This will also be included at the start and climax of the Lico Jiménez The Ebony Liszt documentary which is part way through production, having completed a large amount of filming. I don’t claim to be an expert on music and so I wont try to become one by the end of this article, but I do enjoy music and I know that others reading this will know far more than I about classical music. What I would recommend is that you head over to the official page where donations can be given and that page is HERE https://licojimenez.wedid.it/
You’ll find out everything you need to know about the documentary, the music, the musicians and of course how to donate to their campaign. You can also find out more information HERE https://www.licojimenez.com/
“Our passion is to tell this story about the enduring power of one man’s music compositions that barely survived horrors of history. With the vision of our documentary film director, Isidro L. Betancourt Benítez, we celebrate the unsung accomplishments of an Afro Cuban post romantic musician and composer whose remarkable achievements, in spite of formidable challenges, left a permanent stamp on European and Cuban music.” Julie Carmen – Executive Pruducer – actress and great granddaughter
