Richard (Paddy Considine) has always protected his little brother Anthony (Toby Kebbell). Richard is strong and fair, while the loving and gentle Anthony is simple minded. When Richard leaves the rural village where they have grown up, to join the army, Anthony is taken in by Sonny (Gary Stretch), a controlling and vicious local drug dealer, and his gang of lads. Anthony becomes the gang’s pet and plaything, as they initiate him into their sordid worldly ways. Seven years later Richard returns for revenge on those who tormented his Brother. To say Dead Mans Shoes is a great film is an understatement. Its a classic and one of those films that when you hear someone say ‘oh ive not seen that film’ your instant reply usually is ‘oh you HAVE to watch it’. I havent seen it on the big screen but have owned the DVD since its release and have watched it many times over the years. So if you havent seen Dead Mans Shoes, then you HAVE to watch it.
As well as screenings nationwide, some from 35mm prints, Dead Man’s Shoes will also play as part of the BFI Southbank’s ‘Acting Hard’ season on 12 September where Shane Meadows will be present for a Q&A.
