Traffik, directed by Deon Taylor ( Meet The Blacks) is one hell of a film. Beginning with a very slick and cinematic nightclub dance, we think we are in for one type of film, but then the title card ‘Inspired By True Events; pops onscreen and then things change as we follow a couple in love who head off for a romantic weekend in the mountains and everything seems perfect. But we know it wont be.After a confrontation at a gas station, we then think the film is headed off in another direction, but we would be wrong. Confused? Well you shouldn’t be? Traffik inst a confusing film, but what it is, is an edge of the seat thriller from start to finish. The film knows its pace and works it perfectly, not feeling the need to rush to any set pieces but does deliver great set pieces when the film demands them.

There are excellent performances by all involved and this is yet another ‘knocked our of the park’ performance by the super talented Luke Goss (Your Move) as the villain ‘Red’ . Having recently seen Luke in his directorial debut ‘Your Move’ (which he also starred in), it was great to see him back to see him back on screen in this film (but I still look forward to his next directing gig), the whole cast was excellent including Paula Patton (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol), Missi Pyle ( Charlie and The Chocolate Factory), Omar Epps (House), and Roselyn Sanchez ( Without A Trace) to name just a few of the stars in this tough thriller.
I could go into more detail with the plot but the film fan in me doesn’t want to ruin any of the journey of ‘Traffik’ The story you need to see for yourself, however I can talk about how fantastic the direction was, how much I loved the sound design on this film with its use of total silence, followed by noise that may make you fall from your sofa (especially if you are watching it through cinema surround as I did), So treat yourself and watch the master Deon Taylor at work.
