Reflecting On Wes Craven

I’ve never known a time in my life when the name ‘Wes Craven’ wasnt around.

I was born in 1971, and fell in love with the movie world in the late 70s when I became fully aware of the escape that films and cinema would give me from life. However it wouldn’t be until around 1984 when I first saw a Wes Craven film. That film was ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ and perhaps its most peoples first experience with Wes. It was one of the first horror VHS titles that I had seen I had previously seen the video covers of his early films ‘The Last House on the Left’ (1972) and ‘The Hills Have Eyes’ (1977) but was way too young to watch them. I could only gaze at the cover art and imagine what horrors were contained in the movies.

Elm Street is still one of my favourite Wes Craven films and a film that I have seen dozens of times over the years. I’ve seen every sequel and even watched a chunk of the TV series based upon his creation. But there is far more to Wes Craven than the world of Freddy Krueger  Wes Craven has easily earned the title ‘Master of Horror’ in my opinion and that of a massive portion of the film world hopefully. Giving us the ‘Scream’ franchise, The Serpent and The Rainbow, ‘The Hills Have Eyes’ and its sequel (even if the second one is a little bit iffy, it does give us the first ever doggie flashback’ Thanks for that Wes.

The film world will miss new projects from Wes Craven but as I said earlier in a tweet. Wes leaves one hell of a legacy

Its very strange to know that Wes has gone, and when you get older, and more names from your life leave this world. Its time to reflect on just how talented these people are. To revisit their projects, to venture into the world of the internet and the collection of DVDs and Blu Rays to check out the special features and commentaries that feature these people we admire.
