Children of Sorrow from @highfliersfilms

There is nothing scarier than real life, serial killers, home invasions, murder films to me are far scarier than films about demons and fictitious monsters. With Children Of Sorrow we get a nasty glimpse into the real world of cults. Whilst the film is fiction, there isnt anything in the film that we havent read about in the papers or heard and seen on the evening news.

Shot with a documentary/camcorder style, Children Of Sorrow starts with a scene that has the viewer confused, but soon tells us that this wont be a family film by any means.

Children of Sorrow tells us the story of a young woman who embeds herself in a cult looking for answers to her sister’s disappearance. But this isnt the hook of the film. For me the sheer power of the film was in watching people setting up a cult, and people falling for it to very graphic outcomes in certain instances. Not for the squeamish but for fans of horror films and fans of slow burning plots  you can definitely do worse than check out Children of Sorrow.

Its also interesting to read that the cult leader played by Bill Oberst Jr. lived in isolation during the filming of his role with no internet or phone access, and speaking as little as possible except on camera and retreating to an office between takes to help him stay in character.

Children Of Sorrow is out now on DVD
