Siren
:-noun
GREEK MYTHOLOGY
women or winged creatures whose singing lured unwary sailors on to rocks.
The indie film Deadly Waters takes us into a world where we can learn a little more about Sirens, what they do and who they are. But beware!

Whilst investigating the disappearances of several people over a long period of time, Jake (played by Bruce Langley) a young journalist falls in love with a seductive, sultry, young woman (played by Becky Fletcher) he meets on the Brighton beach. The more he falls for her, the more he will learn the dangers of falling in love with a siren.

This is the premise of writer Tyler James latest tale, in a feature film directed by Catherine Carpenter & Tyler James.
Shot entirely in Brighton, UK, the cast and crew have done a fantastic job using pretty much zero budget. I generally don’t like to chat about how much a film cost or didn’t cost, but for Deadly Waters the crew have worked marvels using whatever they had at their disposal. There are a lot of the horror clichés in Deadly Waters but that just adds some fun charm to the storyline. We have the lone fisherman 9played by tony Manders) who knows the legend, we have the rampant sexual goings on of young people which is reminiscent of 1975’s Jaws, we have the typical choir music that signals the sirens coming onto the shore. All fun and tongue in cheek quirky goings on that fit in perfectly to the films tale.

Standout applause has to go to Becky Fletcher who plays the main ‘Siren’ and has to pretty much play her entire role without dialogue, only using her eyes and her body language. All which she uses perfectly and whilst the characters in the film are drawn to her, I bet the audience feels drawn to her also. Brilliantly portrayed.

One word of warning though, don’t watch this film on your travels. As there is a lot of graphic sexual content in the film and whilst it most certainly didn’t bother me. It could be a little cringe worthy if you are wearing headphones whilst watching the film on a bus or a train. (yes that did happen to me) I got very strange looks from Annette, my partner and had to explain what I was watching.
Deadly Waters is everything a film should be. Fun and entertaining.
Check out the trailer for Deadly Waters.
I cant wait to see what the crew do for their next film.
