Demetrius Stear currently co-stars opposite Jamie Kennedy in the hit DVD release Buddy Hutchins. Here we grab a quick ‘chat’ with the amiable actor to talk about his journey, and how gratifying it is to see his years of hard work finally pay off.

How did you get into this industry, Demetrius?
I started out with a print modeling agency and from there transitioned into acting.
Can you tell us what your first paid gig was? And did you frame the check?
My first paid gig was General Hospital. Unfortunately, I didn’t frame my check.
And what’s been the highlight so far?
I would say working with Jamie Kennedy and Sally Kirkland on Buddy Hutchins.

What’s the smallest project you’ve worked on?
I’ve done my fair share of student films early on which were usually free or for the copy of tape.
What’s the biggest?
Buddy Hutchins or Attack from Beneath.
Talk us through the “Buddy Hutchins” experience. Was that a blast? I take it Jamie Kennedy would’ve made it a very animated set!?
It was a lot of fun with a very intimate cast. I had worked with some of the other actors on previous projects so that was cool to reunite for a new project. We shot the film I believe in 16 days, so we were cranking pages out fast. Jamie was great! He helped keep the ball moving and set the tone for the entire shoot.

And the director, Jared Cohn. Was he an actor’s director? Seems he’s done some acting before, so I imagine that would’ve helped?
Jared is definitely an actor’s director. He’s a very good actor himself. He always listens to your point of view or any suggestions you might have for your character and that goes a long way to finding the character.
And where can we see you next?
I have a small cameo in the film School’s Out produced by Richard Switzer. I think it’s set for release this summer.
Many thanks to Clint Morris, and also of course Demetrius for taking the time out to have a chat
