Meeting the Allies from @AlliesWW2movie @Leon87 Its Leon Vickers

I write up press releases all the time, but one thing I want to do a bit more is to actually write articles where I just chat about a specific project. or a specific person. After a wonderful but busy weekend in the world of the film Allies (Directed by Dominic Burns) I have decided to share a few small articles where I shine a light on some of the cast members of the film. This is the second one in the series and here youll learn a little bit more about one of the films stars Leon Vickers who plays  Private Jim Scales.

I wont go into his character (Harry McBain) or storyline points from the film because its now out on DVD and you should go and rent it or buy it yourself.

I have seen the film twice and its wonderful.

Allies Poster

Whilst Leon is still in the sunrise of his career, he has some fantastic projects behind him and am sure many more in front of him.

Allies might be the first project that I have seen Leon star in, Others may recognize Leon Vickers from his appearances in the two part Matt Smith Season 6 episodes of Doctor Who (2011). Leon took the role of Dicken in those episodes. I am so far behind the Doctor Who episodes, but they are on Netflix so I am going to make an effort to catch up on them in the near future.

DOCTOR WHO

Leon is also an award winning actor who won The James Bridie Gold Medal Award for best actor whilst still at drama school, as well as winning Margaret Gordon Award for best theatre performance. Credit to the guy! He also graduated Leon Vickers graduated from The Royal Scottish Academy of Music. More strings to his bow (oh come on, I had to make that gag)

The IMDB page sadly doesnt hold theatre work but I did find out that Leon appeared in the production ‘Rasberry’ at the Oran Mor, ‘Sub Opera’ for Proud Exposure, ‘The Family’ at The Arches, ‘Blood Marked’  for the New Works Festival and ‘What We Know’ for The Traverse. He has also completed a one year film program at The New York Film Academy. So whilst his IMDB filmography might contain 7 credits. A little bit of reseach shows you that Leon Vickers is one hell of a busy guy.

In 2010, Leon appeared in the Daniel Sawka 27 minute short film Reverb which tells of a music band, and the jeopardy which it leads to. In Reverb, Leon plays the role of Josh.

Whilst I didnt manage to track down the full short film. I did find the trailer to it HERE

What did you think?

Just before we take a look at the trailer for Allies, We have to mention the 2012 film Up There (Dir by Zam Salim) (also known under the title Laid Off) Leon appears in the film as ‘Registrar’ in the film and its well worth checking out.

Scales

Having had the pleasure of meeting Leon on not one occassion but twice. Leon is such a great guy with a brilliant professionalism about him. a real interest in the arts and is definately an actor to keep an eye on.

The first time I met Leon Vickers, we  (and other members of the Allies crew) sat down for 80 minutes and had a great chat about the project but also about acting in general. You can hear that conversation HERE (it will open in a new screen for you)

I managed to find Leons Showreel So check this out to get a glimpse of his talent.
