The Fades starring @mrjohnnyharris

Britain do several things wonderfully. One of those things is television drama and one of the most recent shows I watched was The Fades. Not heard of it? Doesnt surprise me as it was underadvertised. At least I dont recall seeing too much about it when it aired in 2011.

Thankfully its out on DVD and this is where I picked it up and viewed the entire show over a several week time period.

So, what is the premise of The Fades?

cast-the-fades

Seventeen-year-old Paul(played by Iain De Caestecker)  is haunted by apocalyptic dreams that neither his therapist or best friend and fellow geeky social outcast Mac played by Daniel Kaluuya)can provide answers for. Worse still, Paul is starting to see the Fades – the spirits of the dead – all around him. They’re everywhere but they just can’t be seen, smelt, heard or touched by ordinary human beings. But now an embittered and vengeful Fade has found a way to break the barrier between the dead and the living and Paul and Mac and their friends and family are all right in the eye of the storm. The fate of humanity rests in the hands of two teenagers who already have enough trouble getting through a day in one piece, let alone saving the world…

Now that is a pretty good plot summary but it neglects to add in the character of Neil (brilliant played by the always watchable Johnny Harris) Who enters the story as someone with the fate of the world on his shoulders and he will do anything he can to defeat the dark forces that are building up around him

Johnny Harris is an amazing actor and was the reason I decided to check out The Fades. But to take nothing away from Johnny, in this six episode show, he fits perfectly into the entire cast of amazing performers.

This show is definitely worth checking out and even though the show was sadly cancelled by the BBC before a season 2 could air, I can assure you that the story does complete itself, even though we see where Season 2 would have gone.

Do check the show out.

Thank you to all who made the show, both behind the camera, typing away at the scripts and of course in front of the camera giving us one of the best shows I have seen for a while .
