Kevin gets so much flack. Not all the time, he has so many fans I cant even count them. They include me and have included me since I first Saw Clerks when I was working in a video store similar to that in his film.
Since then I have eagerly awaited and watched every film that Kevin Smith has unleashed into the world. That even includes Cop Out which to this day is the ONLY Kevin Smith directed project that I didnt enjoy. I love Clerks, I love Mallrats, Chasing Amy and right up to Red State, all those DVDs sit proudly on my film collection shelf.
Podcast wise, Kevin & Scotts Smodcast was the second podcast I ever subscribed to (the first being The Ricky Gervais Show), the books I have purchased are numerous and I felt that I pretty much knew every thing that Kevin Smith had to say.
I was wrong.
Ive listened to thousands of hours worth of Kevins voice and yet the most impressive thing that Kevin would work on was yet to enter my home. So what is this item that has caused me to write the blog article you read here?
Well Its his latest book. Tough Sh*t Advice from a Fat Lazy Slob who did good . by Kevin Smith.
I half expected this to be another book where he talked about balls and donkeys and the various things he talks about on his Smodcast Networks (Id have been fine with that, Kevin makes me laugh)
But I was wrong. This book could well be one of the best books I have read for a few years. Its filled with tales of Kevins experiences in the movie world, his tales of Miramax, his tales of getting projects made and his dealings with other studios.
The book is filled with his own thoughts about where the film industry is going wrong and how it should be fixed.
I know there are people reading this who might not be a fan of Dogma or Jersey Girl or some other Kevin Smith projects. But I would hope that most of you who are reading this article are fans of film, so therefor if you are and Im sure you are.then head over toAmazon or waterstones ofwherever else you buy books from and pick up a copy of
Tough Sh*t: Life Advice from a Fat, Lazy Slob Who Did Good
There is even an audiobook version available which runs just short of six hours, narrated by the man himself. Kevin Smith.
So there you have it.A great book by a very talented, funny, genuine guy. I havent finished the book but will be sad when I do.But hopefully there are far more tales of the film world to come from him.
Thank you Kevin.
Now if only you would send me a tweet message, I can cross that off my bucket list.Yes Sir ‘receive a tweet or email from Kevin Smith is in fact on my bucket list)
