From Director Sean Cronin comes Our Kid, a perfect mix of laugh out loud comedy, heartache, and slice of life charm.

From director Sean Cronin comes Our Kid, a wonderful mix of both comedy and emotional drama that takes us into the lives of the Reilly family in Liverpool who are certainly facing some tough times in their lives.

Based on the multi-award-winning short film: ‘THOMAS’ (written by Daniel P. Lewis) Our Kid (also written by Daniel P Lewis) Our Kid features an all-star British cast including Connor McIntyre (Coronation Street), John McArdle (Brookside),  Mark Moraghan (Allies), Leanne Best (Tin Star, Young Wallander, Bolan’s Shoes, Carnival Row, Compulsion), Ricky Tomlinson (The Royle Family, Brookside), Louis Emerick (, Brookside, Layer Cake), Angela Dixon (Never Let Go), Daniel P. Lewis (Billy Smith), Sharon Byatt (Bread) and 14-year-old Poppie Jae-Hughes, as Laura. (Poppie will be back working with Sean Cronin in the upcoming Bogieville )

Our Kid is told through the eyes and imagination of twelve-year-old Laura Reilly (brilliantly placed by Poppie Jae-Hughes), whose goal in life is to one day play football professionally (For Liverpool of course). Although Laura has many footballing heroes, her older brother Thomas has won her ultimate admiration which we learn through some lovely voiceover and animation at the start of the film.

But the film isn’t just about Laura and Thomas, its about family, the bond they share and the support they give each other and the support they need from the others, and when a major tragedy strikes the Reilly family need to pull together to get through it. Will they get through it? That is also a question that Our Kid answers by the end of its running time.

Our Kid is such a wonderful film, every single one of the cast is on top form and you will end up shedding a ton of tears throughout this film, sometimes with humour, and often with emotion. Its such a great ‘slice of life’ movie, and if you love the films of Ken Loach and Mike Leigh, then you know what I mean about ‘slice of life’ films. We leap into the story, we spend some time with a great mix of characters, and then we leave them at the end credits, letting them carry on their lives without us. Our Kid does such a fantastic job of juggling really funny dialogue, scenes that break your heart, and great realism, without missing a step. Perfect timing form start to finish.

Director Sean Cronin has done such a wonderful thing with Our Kid and whilst I generally know Sean from his many acting roles (such as Mission Impossible Rogue Nation, Kill Kane, and Wrath of Dracula) I had seen some of Sean’s previous directing roles including the fantastic Give Them Wings (which if you haven’t seen that film- I highly recommend it) and and knew that if anything. Our Kid would be wonderfully directed. Our Kid isn’t just wonderfully directed though. Our Kid though is wonderfully everything! Acted, written, filmed, music, Its everything!
