Sam Fox’s Fck’n Nuts is Fck’n so much fun!

I woke up, I got up, I had a cup of coffee, and then thought about what my day would bring.  So far my day has started off wonderfully. I sat down with my second cup of coffee and checked out Fck’n Nuts, a short film by writer-director Sam Fox (Bad Acid) and which took me into the very bizarre surreal world of Sandy (played by Maddie Nichols from The Boogeyman) who we find lying in her bedroom, looking all upset about something. It turns out that it looks like yet another boyfriend is about to become an ex boyfriend due to Sandys parents and the ongoing ‘freak out’ feeling they give to Sandys love interests.

But Sandy’s new boyfriend Dan (played by Vincent Stalba isn’t put off by the ‘my parents scare everyone off’ story and with his chirpy, upbeat, and can do attitude, he persuades Sandy to show him off to her Mum and Dad. Now whilst that story seems nice and simple and basic. I can imagine the filming of Fck’n Nuts was anything simple and basic. What we have here from the team behind the film is genius!. Firstly the film is gorgeous to look at and the cinematography by Daniel Waghorne (The Blood of the Dinosaurs) is glorious. Every single shot looks as amazing as a filmmaker would hope it to look and it even the most simple of shots, such as two people sitting on a porch and then standing up- looks fantastic.  So much thought has gone into the whole design of this film, every shot, every prop. I loved it.  The film does run for a mere 12 minutes and once you remove the credits and opening production logos, the story itself runs for around 9 minutes, but what a 9 minutes.

Its sometimes tricky to go into too much detail about a short film because, you know, its a short film and going into detail about any of the scenes would perhaps ruin the pleasure of discovering the story for yourself but what I can say about Sam Fox’s ‘Fck’n Nuts’ is that its glorious, I highly recommend it and that it has put a big ole smile on my face at the start of this day. and the explanation of where the title comes from is Fck’n genuis! It has also made me seek out other films by Sam and I cant wait to start watching those!  I’m a fan!

The film screens at the New Orleans Film Festival (November 3rd to November 8th) so if you are at that festival. Do check out one of the coolest short films youll see this year.
