Night of the Tommyknockers, not to be confused with the 1993 TV mini series The Tommyknockers, or the 1987 novel by Stephen King, is a 2022 released western/horror (based on a story by Sonny and Michael Mahal) which takes us back to the 1870s where a group of ancient creatures known as Tommyknockers are released from an underground mine and run havoc across a nearby western town forcing the towns remaining population to fight for survival, not just against the Tommyknockers, but also against the law and a bounty hunter intent on lining his own pockets. Night of the Tommyknockers is a blast! The filmmakers blend the horror western genres together wonderfully and inject character drama in the story and film which makes for the perfect binding for these two types of films that don’t often meet on our screens. Yes I am sure there are other western horror films out there, but not too many that I can think of. The western didn’t feel out of place in this tale of rampaging flesh eaters, and the fleshing ripping gore creatures didn’t feel out of place in this tale of saloons, and bank robberies Nice mix!
The cast is also a joy to watch and whilst many of the names I wasn’t familiar with beforehand, I was familiar with Richard Grieco (A Night at the Roxbury, Teen Agent), Tom Sizemore (Natural Born Killers, Strange Days) , Robert LaSardo (Death Race, NYPD Blue), Jessica Morris (Evil Bong, Evil Bong 777), Elissa Dowling ( The Most Dangerous Game, Tales of Halloween) and many more. Great cast.
The film is directed by Michael Su who also directed the recent zombie/army film Bridge Of The Doomed and once again Michael delivers a great fun, action packed film which will have you chomping popcorn and enjoying a great nights entertainment. Nice work Michael!
So if you want a crazy action film filled with shootouts, and blood craving creatures. I would definitely recommend Night of the Tommyknockers which is out now.
