Several years ago, I was fortunate enough to meet up with Mr Trevor Hayward, a UK filmmaker who was in the process of putting together ‘Witch’ a story shrouded in secrecy and whom even the people involved in the film, knew very little about. this masterstroke of Trevor not only kept story elements from leaking out before the film was released, but also allowed the characters in his story, to not be spoiled in where their plot was headed or who other characters in the story were (if they hadn’t met) I was even fortunate enough to work with Trevor on the film ‘Witch’ and I have to say, its both wonderful, and also strange to not know what the story is about, even though you are a small part of it. Needless to say it was a wonderful experience and I very much looked forward to finding out just what ‘Witch’ was about when it aired.
Fast forward to 2021 and Witch seems to have changed from a feature film to what seems like a series of short films and having seen Episode 1, I am very happy to say that whilst I still don’t really know fully what the story is, I will say that the 6 minute episode 1 that I did see, is just as wonderful as I hoped it would be. No spoilers here and im not even going to discuss the plot, but take it from me, its beautifully filmed, and very well acted by the actors that I have witnessed onscreen for the first of what I think will be many episodes. Trevor Hayward has yet again proven that he is one of the talents to watch, not just for his filmmaking, but for his writing and also for the style in which he puts the films together. Roll on episode 2.
