revisit Abel Ferrara’s The Addition with this 4K Blu-ray out June 25th 2018 from Arrow Video ( @arrowfilmsvideo )

The Addiction is one of the most powerful vampire movies ever made, with everything from its grainy black and white aesthetic to its raw central performance, combining to position vampirism as a hedonistic addiction above all else. Whether you’re already a convert or completely new to the film, Abel Ferrara’s take on vampire mythology, on a specially restored director-approved 4K Blu-ray, will have you craving more. Last week I attended the Newcastle International Film Festival which not only featured a lot of films I wasnt familiar with, but also features The Addiction. I was fortunate enough to have a quick chat with Abel Ferrara and he did mention that he was very much looking forward to this film being rereleased with all new special features.  Yes here is the picture with me on the left and Abel Ferrara on the right (actress Meredith Ostrom is in the middle)

Philosophy student Kathleen (Lili Taylor, The Conjuring) is dragged into an alleyway on her way home from class by Casanova (Annabella Sciorra, The Hand That Rocks the Cradle) and bitten on the neck. She quickly falls ill but realises this isn’t any ordinary disease when she develops an aversion to daylight and a thirst for human blood…

Having made a big-budget foray into science fiction two years earlier with Body Snatchers, Ferrara’s approach to the vampire movie is in a lower key. Shot on the streets of New York, like so many of his major works – including The Driller Killer, Ms. 45 and Bad Lieutenant – and beautifully filmed in black and white, The Addiction sees the filmmaker on his own terms and at his very best: raw, shocking, intense, intelligent, masterful.
