Controversial, influential and unforgettable, the final film by the legendary film director Stanley Kubrick, Eyes Wide Shut – starring A-list superstars Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman – is released by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment for the first time in the UK on 4K Ultra HD SteelBook on July 27, 2026.
Stanley Kubrick’s extraordinary, disturbing and profound 1999 swansong, inspired by the book Traumnovelle by Arthur Schnitzler, stars Tom Cruise (Top Gun) and Nicole Kidman (Oscar -winner for The Hours) as a married couple entangled in an intricate web of jealousy and sexual obsession. With a supporting cast including Sydney Pollack (Tootsie), Vinessa Shaw (3:10 to Yuma) and Rade Serbedgia (Batman Begins), and a remarkable, hypnotic score by Jocelyn Pook, the dreamlike visuals and sumptuous set pieces look absolutely marvellous in this new 4K UHD release, and Kubrick fans will be able to savour his breathtaking attention to detail like never before. I first saw Eyes Wide Shut in US theatres back in 1999 (when I was on holiday there) and wasnt a fan. The film had been shrouded in secrecy during its production and noone knew what to expect. However over the years I have rewatched the film a few times (on VHS, and then DVD) and have grown to love this movie and it might actually be my favourite Kubrick film. As with most Stanley Kubrick films, they are the sort of films that each time you watch them, you see more, you experience more and you learn to see just how many layers his films have. They are truly stunning! I haven’t experienced Eyes Wide Shut in 4K but with the news that it is being released this July, I’m definitely going to check it out as soon as I can.
The Eyes Wide Shut Blu-ray Disc contains the following new special features:
Channel Four Documentary The Last Movie: Stanley Kubrick and Eyes Wide Shut which I have seen and runs for just over 40 minutes. Well worth checking out if you want to delve into Eyes Wide Shut more.
New Featurette Lost Kubrick: The Unfinished Films of Stanley Kubrick which is a 2007 featurette that runs for around 20 mins but hasnt (as far as I know) been available on disc until now.
