Treasured Films now have The Island up for pre-order. No, not the Michael Bay Classic (yes I said classic) but the 1980 Michael Caine starring classic from director Michael Ritchie (Fletch) and author/ screenwriter Peter Benchley (The Deep, Jaws). The Island is making its UK Bluray Debut in this very special edition.
Michael Caine stars as Blair Maynard, an investigative writer who is working to uncover the mysterious disappearance of boats and their passengers in the Caribbean. During his investigation, he and his son are captured by a community of raiding pirates led by Nau (played by the amazing David Warner – The Omen).
While they are kept alive to preserve the pirates’ genetic bloodline, Blair’s son is converted to their way of life and Blair himself must fight back and come to the rescue to free them both from the pirates’ barbaric stronghold. The Island is a film I haven’t seen but I was sold when I saw the cast! David Warner is one of the greats, and so is Michael Caine (he makes Jaws The Revenge, watchable)
