Director Nick Nevern’s highly entertaining, brutal ,stylish crime action drama ‘Rise of the Footsoldier: Vengeance’ on Digital Now & Bluray December 26th

The next film in the Rise of the Footsoldier franchise is now on digital to download and keep (available options HERE) and will be arriving on bluray December 26th 2023.

In the 6th instalment (we have already had Rise of the Footsoldier, Rise of the Footsoldier Part II: Reign of the General, Rise of the Footsoldier: The Pat Tate Story, Rise of the Footsoldier: Marbella, Rise of the Footsoldier: Origins) Rise of the Footsoldier: Vengeance has director Nick Nevern ( Rise of the Footsoldier: Origins) back in the directing chair which is a great move as Origins was my favourite film in the series for a little while. In the previous film Nick wonderfully balanced the popcorn level and the gritty level perfectly in my opinion and it felt more grounded than some of the previous installments in the franchise. When I heard there would be a new entry into the Footsoldier series. I was hoping that Nick Nevern would return to direct it (thank you movie gods!!!) and return he has.

Rise of the Footsoldier:Vengeance ( written by Andrew Loveday and Jason Maza ) set in the early 1990s, sees the return of Pat Tate (again played by Craig Fairbrass) who sets out on a violent revenge rampage after the death of someone he knew (I wont say who as that would ruin some of the plot) Also featured in the cast for this film are Phil Davis (Face), Geoff Bell (The Business), Jamie Foreman ( La4er Cake), Sadie Frost (Bram Stoker’s Dracula), Tara Fitzgerald (Legend), Emily Wyatt (The Last Heist) Anthony Skordi (The Offer). With a cast list like this, and Director Nick Nevern at the helm. I was so ready to see the film and now that I’ve seen it, what are my thoughts. Did it entertain? Hell yes!. With Nick back in the directing chair this film continues the gritty feel of Origins that I so loved which makes me very happy. Rise of the Footsoldier:Vengeance also looks glorious with its cinematography and if you can, then watching it on the biggest screen possible with the best sound system you can listen on as the soundtrack and score (composed by Rise of the Footsoldier: Origins composer Ross Power ) is also a foot tapper. Loved the music choices and having also had the chance to listen to the score away from the movie, gotta say its one of those music scores that works really well as an album, even when not watching the film.

There are some tricky parts to Rise of the Footsoldier:Vengeance as there is with some of the previous installments of the series, and its not really a bad thing, but I can sometimes struggle with an anti-hero. Not that I would perhaps class the Pat Tate character as an anti hero. He is of course a violent thug of a character and not a character we would want to meet, speak, or mingle with in any capacity, hes ultra violent and pretty damn scary and yet with Pat Tate being the ‘main character’ of the film, it can be tricky to sympathise with the man even though we do root for him to succeed in his revenge mission given that the person that has been killed is a somewhat likeable character (again I wont mention who that character was or who they were played by, but I like seeing them on screen they were great)  Craig Fairbrass once again plays Pat Tate to perfection and has some fantastic fight scenes in the movie.

So all in all Rise of the Footsoldier: Vengeance is another win for the franchise, and definitely another directing win for Nick Nevern (who also has a small role in the film too)  I first say a directorial film by Nick way back in 2011 (Terry) and really liked that, even back then I could see the potential for Director Nick Nevern and its always a joy to see a new film from him arrive in the world. Rise of The Footsoldier:Vengeance once again shows that this is a talented guy who gives it his all and adds that extra ‘wow’ to a movie.  Here’s to the next one Nick!
