Cursed Films,a five-part doc series explores myths and legends behind some Hollywood “cursed” horror films ( @shudder )

Cursed Films is a five-part documentary series (each episode around the half hour mark) which explores the myths and legends behind some of Hollywood’s notoriously “cursed” horror film productions. From plane accidents and bombings during the making of The Omen, to the rumored use of real human skeletons on the set of Poltergeist, these stories are legendary among film fans and filmmakers alike. But where does the truth lie? Cursed Films reveals the events that haunted these productions through interviews with experts, witnesses and the cast, directors and producers who lived through the real-life events. Were these films really cursed, as many believe, or just the victims of bad luck and bizarre circumstances?

The series premiered on Shudder Thursday, April 2, with The Exorcist episode, followed by the Poltergeist and The Omen on April 9 and The Crow and Twilight Zone: The Movie finish series one on April 16.

I have been fortunate enough to see all the episodes on this series (thank you Team Shudder!) and really enjoyed the entire series. For those who may know the stories of the ‘curse’ elements of the chosen films, this is still an interesting show to watch as you do get to hear some of the stories from some of the crew in the films themselves ,Within the series there are also some really interesting tit bits of info about ‘curses’ in general given from authors and scientists which build up a a series that looks to be not ‘fuelling the fires’ of cursed films, but giving a balanced overview not just from the authors and scientists I mentioned, but also from some of the familiar names behind the films themselves. The series thankfully doesnt feed into the thought that films are cursed, and does infact give a more realistic and valid explanation on why things that happen, can happen when.

Sadly with the running times of each episode being just below the 30 minute mark, you are left wanting more but more is what you get with a total of five episodes coming your way soon on Shudder.  Check out the trailer for the up and coming series. Whilst you will of course end up with ‘oh that was my favourite episode from the series’ conversations, all in all Cursed Films is yet another wonderful addition to the evergrowing shudder library and with many more films out there that have the ‘cursed’ label stuck to them, there is a wealth of stories for team Shudder to harvest.
