The world has many wonderful exciting filmmakers, many original thinkers and creators who bring joy to film fans like me. When I sit and think of the names of some of these talents, Two that spring to mind are Jen and Sylvia Soska who to date have created the film with the best title ever ‘Dead Hooker In A Trunk’ their debut film, which the identical twins wrote, directed, produced, starred in, and even performed the stunts. Using Robert Rodriguez’s book, Rebel Without A Crew to give them tips to create a wonderfully memorable film (that I need to revisit ) Since that year (2009) Jen and Sylvia havent stopped giving the world fun things to experience which include such gems as American Mary, See No Evil 2 (which I actually watched before I saw the first part and still loved it), Vendetta (with a standout performance by Dean Cain) and now they bring us a re imagining of the Cronenberg classic ‘Rabid’ to the audience of Grimmfest this October.
What happens when you realize that to achieve your dreams you have to live a nightmare? Rose (played byLaura Vandervoort) is a quiet, demure, unassuming woman in her looks and actions. Her dream is to become a famous designer in the fashion world, but a terrible accident leaves Rose scarred beyond recognition. She seeks out a radical untested stem cell treatment. The treatment is nothing short of a miracle and wallflower Rose turns into the belle of the ball. It all seems to good to be true. She is now everything she wanted to be. But everything in life comes at a price and this new found perfect life is no exception.
Grimmfest is one of my favourite film festivals and whilst up to date ive never been able to attend every day of the event, (due to work commitments that ive never been able to get out out) I will be there this year at Grimmfest once again. Unfortunately Its looking like I will miss the change to see Rabid at the screening or meet Jen and Sylvia. I will be there in spirit and can imagine just how cool it would be to watch the ‘Twisted Twins’ introduce the screening of a re imagining of one of my favourite Cronenberg movies.
However if Jen and Sylvia happen to be around on the 4th or 5th of October, Id gladly buy them a coffee and have a chat, See how excited they are about how excited they make horror film fans with each film or show they create.
