STUDIOCANAL announce a must have box set TATI – Jacques Tati’s complete works. Now restored in 4K from 7th December on 4K UHD & Blu-ray

Whilst I do love watching new films, I always get super excited when I get the chance to delve back into film history and visit (or in one title from this box set, revisit) the classics! Check out this beauty of a box set from Studiocanal which is headed out into the world in December. The complete filmworks of legendary Jacques Tati. Its a box set I’m certainly adding to my Christmas list!

Following the 2026 retrospective 4K screenings celebrating the life and work of Jacques Tati at the La Rochelle Festival, STUDIOCANAL presents TATI, a stunning new seven-disc Collector’s Edition boxset featuring restored 4K versions of his complete filmography, on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray, available from 7th December.

Its another brilliant addition to the new STUDIOCANAL CLASSICS range, and this collection celebrates Tati’s contribution to cinema, bringing together the films that cemented his reputation as a key figure of 20th-century French cinema and one of the great comedic artists of all time. Renowned for his meticulous visual compositions, inventive use of sound and wonderfully observed humour, Tati transformed the everyday absurdities of modern life into enduring cinematic comedy. From the rural charm of JOUR DE FÊTE to the dazzling modernist world of PLAYTIME, the collection spans decades of filmmaking, following Tati’s evolution as a performer, writer and director. His iconic Monsieur Hulot, with his distinctive walk, raincoat and quietly bewildered view of the world, remains one of cinema’s most recognisable comic creations.

The TATI collection comprises restorations of six hilarious features: JOUR DE FÊTE (1949), an affectionate portrait of village life, which follows an inept postman inspired to revolutionise his rounds after watching a film about the efficiency of the American postal service; LES VACANCES DE MONSIEUR HULOT (1953), in which Monsieur Hulot’s well-intentioned antics gently disrupt the carefully ordered routines of fellow holidaymakers at a seaside resort; Oscar-winning comedy MON ONCLE (1958), which contrasts Hulot’s charmingly old-fashioned world with the sterile, gadget-filled modern home of his relatives; the comic masterpiece PLAYTIME (1967), which sees Hulot navigating a labyrinth of glass, steel and modern architecture in a brilliantly choreographed portrait of an increasingly mechanised world; TRAFIC (1971) in which Hulot joins a team travelling to an automobile exhibition in a playful satire of technology, transport and modern convenience; and his final feature PARADE (1974), which celebrates the circus, blending mime and physical comedy with audience participation. Out of that list of films the only one I have seen is Mon Oncle which still stands as one of my favourite black and white films and a film that I have actually been meaning to pick up on physical media for a while now to add into my Favourite Films Of All Time collection. The other films in this collection would be first time viewings for me.

Also included in this mammoth box set is a bonus Blu-ray disc of seven Tati-related short films,

ON DEMANDE UNE BRUTE / BRUTE WANTED (1934)

GAI DIMANCHE / JOYFUL SUNDAY (1935)
