24 Hour Party People | Re-release in UK & Irish cinemas for its 24th anniversary from 9th October

Celebrating 24 years since the release of Michael Winterbottom’s iconic film, 24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE makes a much-heralded return to UK and Irish cinemas on 9 October 2026, remastered in 4K. The film will be available to own on Digital and 4K UHD disc from 26 October.

A premiere screening of 24 Hour Party People will open Beyond The Music, Greater Manchester’s music and media industry conference, and music festival at MediaCity, Salford on 6 October, followed by a Q&A featuring Steve Coogan, Michael Winterbottom and Andrew Eaton.

Manchester 1976: Granada TV presenter, Tony Wilson (Steve Coogan), is at a Sex Pistols gig.  Totally inspired by this pivotal moment in music history, he and his friends set up a record label, Factory Records, and proceed to sign a number of local bands destined to be some of the most influential artists of their time.  First, Joy Division, who go on to become New Order; then come the Happy Mondays.

What ensues is a blackly comic tale of music, sex, drugs, larger-than-life characters, and the birth of one of the most famous dance clubs in the world, The Haçienda.  Told through the eyes of one man who was in the centre of it all throughout, 24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE graphically documents the vibrancy that made Mad-chester the place to be.

A riotous, genre-defying portrait of the Manchester music scene that still rocks the globe, 24 Hour Party People was one of the most celebrated British films of the decade, earning widespread critical acclaim following its release in 2002. The film captured the anarchic spirit of Factory Records and the Mad-chester era with a wit and energy that resonated far beyond its cultural setting.

A Revolution Films production, 24 Hour Party People was written by Frank Cotrell-Boyce, produced by Andrew Eaton and also stars Paddy Considine (MobLand)Shirley Henderson (Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy)Lennie James (The Walking Dead)John Simm (Life On Mars)Ralf Little (The Royle Family), Andy Serkis (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes)Peter Kay (Car Share)Sean Harris (Mission Impossible: Fallout)John Thomson (Inkheart) alongside a host of cameos from the Manchester scene.

24 Hour Party People will be re-released in UK & Irish cinemas from 9 October and on 4K UHD disc from 26 October
