Indie Filmmaker Neil Johnson Announces Dual Release of Epic Space Opera Films: Star One and Star One: Resurrection

Acclaimed independent filmmaker Neil Johnson is set to launch two ambitious sci-fi features in 2026: the visionary space opera Star One and its high-stakes sequel Star One: Resurrection.

Star One, written and directed by Neil Johnson (The Time War, Doomsday), is a bold, indie space opera set in a distant future where the tyrannical “Federation” maintains ruthless control over nine planets. The film follows a daring crew aboard the legendary vessel Star One as they challenge an oppressive regime in a sweeping tale of rebellion, discovery, and the fight for freedom across the stars.

Picking up immediately where the first film ends, Star One: Resurrection thrusts audiences deeper into the galactic conflict. Following John Worthy’s explosive mutiny, the galaxy stands fractured. The villainous “Overseer” responds with a devastating new weapon—an ancient alien nano-virus capable of rewriting human DNA and transforming entire planetary populations into mindless, obedient zombified slaves. As the rebellion fights for survival, the crew of Star One faces their most terrifying and personal battle yet.

“These films represent everything I love about science fiction—grand scale storytelling, complex characters, and high-concept ideas brought to life on an independent budget,” said Neil Johnson. “Star One builds a rich universe, and Resurrection wastes no time diving straight into the chaos and consequences. I’m incredibly excited to share this epic journey with audiences.”

Both films blend classic space opera spectacle with intense action, emotional depth, and thought-provoking themes about power, identity, and resistance. Johnson’s hands-on approach brings a distinctive indie vision to the genre, proving compelling stories don’t require studio-sized budgets.

The dual release marks a significant milestone for Johnson, who continues to push boundaries in independent genre filmmaking. Further details on release dates, cast, and distribution will be announced in the coming months.
