1970s Soldier Blue is given the 4K restoration in a special edition bluray by Studiocanal.

STUDIOCANAL have announces an incredible brand-new restoration of the shocking and controversial SOLDIER BLUE, as part of the Cult Classics Collection. The 1970 film, based on actual events, is a quintessentially gritty and bloody 70s revisionist western, starring Candice Bergen (Carnal Knowledge), Peter Strauss (Rich Man, Poor Man), and Donald Pleasence (Wake In Fright). As well as a collectable 4K UHD SteelBook, the film is released on Blu-ray and DVD with superb new sleeve art by Tony Stella. I dont have any details on whether the film is still cut (by just a few seconds during a brutal attack scene) or is an uncut version of the film.

Based on the novel by T.V. Olsen (writer of the Gregory Peck western The Stalking Moon), who used the 1864 Sand Creek Massacre as a basis for the story, SOLDIER BLUE was directed by Ralph Nelson (Oscar-nominated for Lilies of the Field). Released in 1970 with the tagline ‘The most savage film in history!’, the New York Times declared it “a staggeringly powerful magnificent film… a movie of great art and courage”.

The film features a haunting soundtrack by Roy Budd (Get Carter), and includes a title song by Buffy Sainte-Marie which was a top ten hit in the UK in 1971.

The Blu-ray edition will include four art cards.
